Yes, I was just in 3 of those countries in the last week and guess what? It's not free they pay high taxes. That's the part you idgits never realize. I guess as long as you are not paying you consider it free but for the rest of us it's anything but free. Oh you can also look for the costs of childcare to skyrocket while at the same time quality go down because like everything our government touches it will go to **** but at least it will be expensive *****

Sooooooo 500,000 kids 18 or under in NM roughly….apparently parents pay $12,000 a year for care according to this story….so that's $6 Billion annually. The states budget is $10 Billion for 2025…..something isn't jiving.

(Yes I realize a number of those kids are covered under public ed funding)

Why is this awesome? Now you're going to have to pay higher taxes and still send your kid to private child care because the quality of the state run system will be subpar to say the least.

But hey, at least moms can work longer hours in the widget factory to make money to pay for child care.

1. It's about choice. Right now, a lot of families, especially mothers, don't have the option to stay in the workforce because childcare is so expensive.

2. The higher workforce participation doesn't just benefit "the widget factory", it grows the economy, raises tax revenues, and strengthens social programs.

3. Wouldn't this be the type of investment conservatives want our tax dollars to go to? Encouraging the natural born expansion of the American family unit while providing maximum economic participation.

The same way we pay for billions of extra dollars to be spent on ICE, the military, and Israel. Spending money on these things is never questioned. Spending money on things that helps everyday people? That is scrutinized to the max.

Are you crazy? No, I am serious are you crazy? Do you think those social programs should be celebrated? You do know they are one of the biggest reasons this country is in 37.5 trillion debt, accounting for more than 1/3 of our annual expenditures don't you? They are a shining example of what happens when you let government run large social programs. They are expensive, inefficient and let's be honest insolvent but hey just print more money or "tax" the mean old billionaires that are "paying their fair share" amirite?

In the history of our nation, no program has lifted more people out of poverty than Social Security. By almost every metric, SS is arguably the most successful government policy the nation has ever created. A program that by design funds itself through FICA and has no impact on the deficit, budget, or debt.

Oh to live in a country protected by the defensive spending of another.

Sure would be nice.

I'm all for it if they are paying for it using their own state taxes. 50 states, 50 ways of experimenting to see what works. If they can afford it and taxpayers want to pay for it, that's their business. I'm glad I don't live there and have to pay for others peoples choices in this regard. I am wondering though if they are ultimately paying for this through federal dollars somehow. If it was being paid for by private charity, that would be much better.

We never payed out of pocket for our child care at the infant and toddler stages and we certainly would have never asked taxpayers to pay for ours if we did. We did pay for half day pre-school a couple days a week for socialization purposes for us as a whole family and our children. But that was really just to start the process of building relationships with families our children would be attending school with in the years ahead. All of that was with private funding at a private pre school. No government involved.

We made hard choices and lived within our means in order to have full time care of our children by their biological parents during their ages where parental supervision is vitally important and necessary. Certainly understand that is not possible for all families, but the world would be a better place if that was still the expectation and norm while the alternative is a back up plan when things go south for a child (produce of divorce, abuse, death, etc).

When government grows its presence as a replacement for the nuclear family, the outcomes are not as promising. I don't have a lot of faith that this is going to turn things around for a struggling state like New Mexico, which has problems that simply don't exist or minimally exist historically with countries like Belgium and Denmark.

I guess we will find out in about 10-20 years or so.
