People drastically discount this concept. Makes it hard to ever have a conversation on cutting spending.
Well out.

Everyone not blinded by MAGA knew this was coming. For as out there as Elon is he actually does care about spending. Trump has no ideology other than Tariffs being good. He just wants to win.Ghost of Andrew Eaton said:

Rand is for the bill except for raising the debt ceiling. He wants that taken out, but I fail to see how that makes any sense. I like RP but this logic escapes me - the debt ceiling will have to be raised, so why let democrats have leverage to stop everything? I understand why Trump and Republicans are upset with him.jamey said:2023NCAggies said:

This bill is basically just a tax bill combined with budget and new regulations
From listening to talk shows, they cannot simply cut everything Elon found. It has to be codified and done little by little to avoid road blocks. Correct me if that was wrong. I'm all ears
And many representatives are saying there will be more bills to come with codified cuts and other cuts
You simply cannot get it all in one bill. And you simply cannot get it done with a 8 count advantage in the house?
Push the bill, get the tax cuts, regulations in place and start cutting the budget in future bills.
If y'all think there's a better solution, I'd like to hear it? A legit "can be done with this congress" solution.
None of y'all can answer that simple question. So what do you want Trump to do?
If you don't get this done the economy will collapse. The bill I mean. Than you're really in a bad spot. I'm talking Rs will be shredded in 2026 if this doesn't pass. If we lose major good luck on getting any cuts at all
If he truly wanted to decrease debt he could point it out, be a leader anything but what he is doing, crapping on Rand for doing so

The economy will collapse if a bill is not passed that keeps the tax rates from increasing significantly. So passing a bill is necessary. Even if its focused more on growth but not spending cuts, it's still necessary. Balanced budget possible in three years. Hold the line. Vote more fiscal conservatives into office.Deputy Travis Junior said:2023NCAggies said:

Just to be clear, you're saying that if a country with $36 trillion of debt doesn't pass a bill that locks in 2 trillion dollar yearly deficits for the foreseeable future, the economy will collapse?
Or we balance the budget in three to four years and save social security. That IS the plan. Without this, there is no plan and no hope and an entire political party gaining strength that will guarantee its destruction.Deputy Travis Junior said:
People talk about kicking the can down the road, but the bill is almost due. Trump won't have to deal with a collapsing Social Security fund, but according to the CBO, there's a decent chance that the very next president that we elect will still be in office when SS announces that it's cutting benefits by a fifth to a quarter because it doesn't have the money to fund the promised amounts (if the 2028 president narrowly misses it, then 2032 definitely will have to deal with it immediately).
The reckoning is ****ing here and people are saying "we can't talk about that, that issue is a political loser!" Trump is a second term president who's done in 3.5 years. He claims that he wants to do right by the American people, so how about he stops ****ing around with on again/off again tariffs that we all know aren't going to result in more than a few micro concessions from random countries, and instead focuses on the crap that matters?

Yeah, Im done with the R party. I had them at zero chance of fixing the fiscal mess going back many years ago. I got suckered in this time. Never again.
I'll find a 3rd party thats probably lying too, but at least I don't 100% know it
We can't outgrow our budget deficit. Not without tackling the spending side. And I mean REAL tackling. Not "reduced spending increases".UntoldSpirit said:Rand is for the bill except for raising the debt ceiling. He wants that taken out, but I fail to see how that makes any sense. As for Elon, he is doing two things: one- he is telling the basic truth - the pork in these bills is disgusting and two- he is making some moves away from Trump to help his company stock prices.
If we lived in a dictatorship with him in charge, Elon could fix it. Instead we will have to go through a process to improve things which will take years. Which makes it extremely difficult to pull off. There's just no other way, however. Big growth and "restrained" spending can get us to a balance budget in three years.
Trump believes in growth more than he believes in cutting spending. Growth and reduced spending increases is the only thing that's likely going to work, so Trump is probably right.

Do people actually still believe this? How many rounds of "We have to pass this turd sandwich now, so we can get to the real reform later" do you have to go through with the GOP. The debt isn't going to be dealt with by anyone, since even the alleged "conservative" party thinks cutting spending back to pre-pandemic levels is draconian.UntoldSpirit said:Or we balance the budget in three to four years and save social security.
