I just chanced upon this video. He complains that the deck is stacked against international students. Well, it is stacked against EVERYONE, even US citizens. A look at Linkedin shows how many people are struggling. Look at his sense of entitlement and arrogance.

Quote:

We work harder than anyone else

Sure. I am sure he also thinks he is smarter than everyone else so is entitled to a plum job just because he paid fees and got a degree. People like him have for decades abused the system which is why we are in this situation. He is not a US citizen. No one owes him a job.

He even talks about the scams of the Indian companies in the US. Trump needs to crack down on these fraudsters.

I understand China is trying to attract STEM scholars. He would probably jump at the opportunity of a job in China, closer to home and all that.

This is one way you know Trump is winning and putting American citizens first.

It's hard for everyone. It took me over 14 months to find a new role and I have 15 years experience in tech.

The absolute worst thing you can do in a market like this is blame someone else for your lack of immediate success and learn to control what you can control and try to always keep your momentum going forward.

You might get knocked around a few times and take a beating or two, but dust off your knees and elbows keep your momentum forward.

I have several former colleagues in my round that got so defeated and down on themselves, they took a 6-12 month break and then tried to get it going again. But because they had completely stopped for so long, the momentum takes a long time to build. They are still looking for roles 3 years post-layoff.

There's actually a very inspiring Jordan B Peterson clip that really motivated me when I got down, but I will refrain from derailing the thread.

There's a post discussing it here:https://texags.com/forums/16/topics/3474594

hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. good times create weak men. and weak men create hard times.

Sounds a little rednecky, but jobs for Americans first. Let's promote career fields where there are actually demands and steer people to those jobs. Get the feds out of higher education and job placement.

They can go turn their home countries into the most prosperous nation to ever exist

But until that happens I'm going to assume the vast majority are just here to undercut wages

America was founded of, by, and for "We the People." We benevolently accept foreigners for various reasons, but entirely at our own discretion and to serve our national interests.

Our consideration for what foreigners want from us should be precisely ZERO.

How come over 90 percent of applications I get (in high tech) are Asian immigrants? I honestly wonder this… what happened to American workers? Have Americans given up on these jobs?

Victims evoke an emotional repsonse, which is what liberalism relies on.

Logic is no part of the liberal equation, except by leadership. The leaders are marxists and are trying to dismantle the Republic.

You are obviously over qualified and educated for the ditch digging job that is available out there. Go ahead and take it and work your way up. Very few people end up working in the professional field in which hey were educated.

Need more opportunities for US students in stem majors. Too many foreign students have too many spots

Colleges love them cause they pay full freight. They should be paying more than full freight that should subsidize US students.

Even when the students get in many are responsible for their own school cost whereas the foreign student can focus on school because their govt or parents foot the bill

The interpretation of the word "our" is crucial.
"Our", as mentioned by the founding fathers means for the benefit of the country America and its people, the Americans.

Our politicians and CEOs have changed "our" to mean just "corporate top management".
America loses. Pols win. CEOs win.

This pisses me off. We are chopping off our own feet.

Caveat.

They pay full tuition ONLY for undergrad.

Almost ALL foreign grad students pay IN-STATE. Why? Because they get hired to "assistantship" jobs which gives them a salary and instate tuition.

Let's take A&M.
  • A US citizen from Kentucky doing grad school at A&M has to pay out of state if he opts not to do an assistantship.
  • An Indian citizen from India doing grad school at A&M gets in-state tuition if he picks up an assistantship.

It is a complete scam. US tax payers are footing the bill to educate Vijay and Chang and their kids are also losing jobs to these people.

Why is it "rednecky"?

Americans need to learn the art of survival. White man's burden is outdated. Worry about your own kids, not someone else's.

It is a simple concept.

USA Job Market is BROKEN

This is definitely the case, for everyone and not just international students. The number of people within my Linkedin network looking for jobs is kind of terrifying...reminds me of the job market after 2008, and I don't think anyone that isn't actively looking is aware of what's going on yet. I know for a fact my entire team I used to work with last year had all their jobs sent offshore.

But anyway, at least any professional career that requires at minimum a college degree is extremely competitive. Like hundreds of applications submitted within an hour of a job posting going up.

Having international students study here, getting jobs here and becoming US citizens is GOOD. Brain drain into our country is what makes us better.

Where do you work?

Many American tech folks are probably like me. They stopped applying to places that only hire south Asian. Take any of the banks in Dallas. Citi, Capital, chase; I bet their IT teams are 90% Indian. You think white nepotism/bias is bad. Then go look at Lockheed or Bell and I bet it's a lot more American because they require security clearances in some cases.

If I go into the job market again i will be looking at thriving small to medium sized businesses.

Technically International students are here to receive an education, not land a job. Once the education has ended then the former students should now apply for U.S. jobs and immigration through the normal channels. They are good workers and the U.S. can use them, however they must follow the same pathway as other immigrants for jobs in the U.S.

Stop regurgitating old talking points that were valid in 1995. Please think clearly about other impacts that are visible now.

I deviate from you slightly.
America is not the employment exchange of the world. It is not our duty to give jobs to average people from around the world. Geniuses? Sure. But the percentage of geniuses are 0.00001%. We need to be thinking about Americans first. Indians from India get jobs by undercutting the market and killing wages. Simple as that. Or by bribing top execs in US companies. Lot of corruption.

They are often more desperate and will take job offers and overlook deal breaker issues (location, company prestige, pay, benefits, lifestyle) that natives won't. The job market is supposed to be a balance between supply and demand, where the price is set by the intersection of the two. If someone's business model requires importing below market labor, then maybe that model is flawed to begin with.

Could have something to do with HR tossing white male applicants. Could have something to do with the type of tech job and/or location. Could have something to do with the stipulated requirements. Could be a function of H-1B desperation where they indiscriminately apply to everything that'll keep them in country (inc roles they're technically overqualified for).

Impossible to say with the lack of specifics you presented, but I've seen a huge gap between the big-picture problem solving skills capabilities of American tech workers and the tunnel-vision mentality of the majority of asian / indian tech workers. The latter may look far better on paper & have superior tech skills that gets them through HR filters while rejecting creative Americans who'd be better at crafting elegant solutions.

The sense of entitlement from so many forein migrants is just appalling to me. I am constantly amazed by it.

I cannot even begin to imagine fleeing to some completely foreign country across the world and being such a spoiled entitled t*tty baby.

We need to start sending a very different message to would-be migrants.

At what point do they just shut off the spigot completely? No immigration, no visas.
