All the republicans needed to do is provide a bare bones CR until Jan 20, and force the democrats to oppose it and take the blame for a shutdown (that conservatives want anyway). It was EASY.

What did the GOP do? They offered a 1500+ bill that spent trillions of dollars on every conceivable amount of pork imaginable. Elon Musk pissed them off by posted about it. So they block Grok from the URL and then come up with a "trimmed" 119 page bill with the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF SPENDING. And YOU GUYS FALL FOR IT.

Even worse, when a historically principled guy like Chip Roy calls BS on it, you guys ATTACK HIM. Rather than the jackasses that are trying to sneak the same BS by you.

Absolutely pathetic.

The points the "hard no" votes seem to be rallying around are (1) disaster aide to North Carolina, (2) farm aide, (3) debt ceiling increase and extension for two years.

Of those, the first two shouldn't be politically volatile but I guess are. Maybe others disagree.

The debt ceiling increase I can see being an uncomfortable point for fiscal conservatives but Trump is pushing on it now to clear it from the deck for a tax cut bill next year. Congress considers tax cuts to be spending and so a future debt ceiling debate will tie down and restrict what can go into a tax cut bill.

What's unique in all this is that it's the President-elect, not the current President, who is scuttling bills before even taking office.

My two-cents is Chip, et al, need to get in line. Not everything has to be solved right this minute.
If the bolded is true, Chip needs to get his azz in line. Trump must pass a tax cut bill.
It's only partially true. It is true that it is considered "spending" by the CBO for estimation purposes and for mischaracterizations by liberals in the press, but it has nothing to do with the Debt Ceiling. It is a bad argument from people who are desperate to cling to the idea that "this time, something is different".

Trump actually did cut taxes last time so I really do not want something different. No one is serious about cutting spending until SS, Medicare and Medicaid are on the table for cuts.

Consequently I just want my taxes reduced to 15% or below and those idiots can argue until they are blue in the face about how it's spent and what gets cut. I'm tired of me and people like me funding the lion's share.

Chip is grand standing.

No sense of awareness and will cost his district
Dude won his district by 26 freaking points. He has no need to grandstand and will never lose his district as long as he feels like running.

He is one of the few guys in congress taking a principled stand. The fact that you fools oppose him shows why the GOP never win their policy desires.
He ran unopposed in the primary and there are plenty of districts anyone with (R) next their name can win in a blow out. A challenger changes everything.
There is a reason he runs unopposed.

And let's say somebody was dumb enough to oppose him.. you morons would vote for that person over Chip Roy who has a 100% conservative rating? Are you freaking kidding? Let me guess, you want Dan Crenshaw to move into his district to unseat him?

Any cut in taxes is repaid in inflation. You aren't getting away from the taxes in one for or the other. We HAVE to cut spending. To bash the one dude who is demanding a cut in spending is pathetic.

You are paying for it no matter what. If the government spends it, it has to be paid for, whether it is in taxes or inflation + economic stagnation, that is the point. Pretending like cutting taxes is the important part of the equation is ignoring math.

I would be thrilled if SS, Medicare and Medicaid were eliminated and my net fed taxes reduced below15%.

Which do you think is more politically viable, gutting entitlements or reducing taxes?

We are going to default, I just want to stop paying for everything in the interim. Everyone feels inflation. Taxes not so much.

Everyone needs to feel it equally if we hope to make a change.

Now cut my taxes.

Like is just said, I don't think he will be successful. If this has to pass to cut taxes, I support that. Cutting taxes will happen long before we cut entitlement soending. The votes are not there to ever end entitlements.

As long as we are all paying the same net tax rate, I'm happy to sit back and watch it burn.

He would be successful if morons didn't bash his ass every time he tried to take a stand. Other weaker GOP politicians see this and figure that they want no part of it. So they sit back and do nothing and increase spending because it's safe.

If you really want spending to be cut, then you should do the exact opposite of what YOU are doing. Rather than publicly bash Chip Roy, you should be supporting him and calling your congressman and demand they too JOIN Chip Roy.

And you clearly have no idea of the economic consequences of your "option". It is vastly better for us to fix this sooner rather than wait for the economy to totally implode. You apparently do not understand what I am saying.

You can't do what you want. Neither can Chip.

I am a realist. Sometimes you have to pick from a series of progressively bad choices. You pick the one that is incrementally better for you and not make the perfect the enemy of the slightly better.

I will bet you that SS will not be eliminated in the next four years. If I'm wrong, I'm off the board. If I'm not, you're off.

You couldn't even get two thirds to support eliminating SS here on F16 and you think the actual electorate is going to support it?

Let me keep my tax money and I'll keep buying more property to shelter my family from the coming collapse. And we can keep those idiotic entitlements afloat through deficit spending until we go over the cliff.

Where in the HELL is he "siding with the left"? That is ASININE.

He has a 100 FREAKING % conservative voting record. Better then Ted Cruz and WAY the hell better than Trump.

And where the hell has the "long game" ever gotten us? The democrats play every game they can, and they WIN every freaking time on policy. Even when they are the freaking minority. Hell Trump owned both houses of congress in 2017 and he created a HUGE budget. We were supposed to "wait for the long game" and then he broke the budget record twice in a row.

How about instead of "playing the long game" we actually FIGHT for a freaking change?

You aren't "choosing the best of progressively bad choices". You are choosing the worst of progressively bad choices. And the reason our politicians never get anywhere is because guys like you fight against those who WOULD do the right thing.

Just look at what happened to the 1500 page bill. It wasn't the fact that Elon Musk posted about it on X, it was because a gazillion people saw it posted on X and they called the CRAP out of their congressmen. If we did that every time they put up a big spending bill, then they would STOP.

Instead, people like you BASH THE PEOPLE FIGHTING IT and then lie and call them RINOs. YOU are the reason we get nowhere in congress. Not guys like Chip Roy.
