It's insanity that cutting spending when the national debt is $36 trillion is considered a "hard right" position.
Well…you sounded taller on radio.

"Very unpopular "Congressman" from Texas"? WTF?
I live in Chip's district and he is very popular here, especially among Republicans. Any primary will be futile.
Yes, I voted for Trump and am very glad he won, but lord he can be a petty little b***h.

Can't you let Elon come up with some cuts? You do realize Trump is not in office yet.

Also, list the cuts you have recommended. TIA
You do realize he actually IS part of the group that comes up with actual budgets, not Elon, right?

So, what has he come up with? Shutting down the government at this point is dumb. You can get what you want when the R's control all branches of government in a month.
Shutting the gov down as ZERO effect on Americans. Do it

Doesn't matter one way or the other. That's why this is just grandstanding. These clowns passed CR after CR but now we are going to shut it all down.

Genius.

This is going to be very common with as small a margin as there is in the House. A single rep out of line or an absolutist voting against on principle will tank the legislative agenda.

Trump thinks Roy is a RINO. strange indeed
There was a reason I was a staunch DeSantis backer back in the primary. This kind of crap and calling for doing away with the debt ceiling tells me Trump hasn't learned a thing. A Fiscal libtard.

So who is outta line Trump or Chip? I'll go with Trump on this issue. Debt will kill us as the worlds foremost economy, and probably already has. We are currently paying more To service the debt than we are on defense. Its insane.

Biden's debt is way more, so zip it.
How much did Trump raise the debt in 2017-2020 and how much did Biden raise the debt in 2021-2024?

Neither of the two could be called a fiscal conservative by any stretch of the imagination, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Trump was worse than Biden.

Debt will kill is, but so will defaulting. We need to improve the balance w sheet and increase the distance to the debt ceiling by cutting spending.

It used to be the case that the government didn't shut down when we hit a debt limit. If I remember correctly, it was Carter who changed that.

I'll pick C. Neither are out of line. But politics is compromise and aiming to get more of the things you want than are given away. A lame duck congress is not solving the debt crisis in 24 hours before breaking before Christmas. If Trump, Vance, et al, say it's good to go then let the Dems be the one to kill this new CR, don't do it from within the GOP.

Yeah, Trump needs to shut up on this one. Sometimes he's his own worst enemy.

Chip Roy is generally a very good Representative. These are conversations that need to happen internally.

Trump wears his thoughts on his sleeve. That is what people love about him. All you DeSantis people go on complaining. That battle is over.
I have been a huge Trump proponent after he won the nomination. And I still am.

But I'll also call him out when he does something stupid, and this is one of those times. Chip Roy is a great conservative and Trump threatening to primary him publicly like this was just plain dumb.

First of all, Trump is talking out of his a** because he doesn't have that kind of political sway in Roy's home district, I don't care how big a mandate he thinks he has. Second, if he has a gripe then call Chip Roy and talk to him personally and hash it out in private instead of attacking him on Truth. He might just be burning ground he needs to cross somewhere down the road.

Sure is funny when Pelosi whips her party into 100% compliance she's glorified, but Trump is not allowed to do the same (now I don't agree with his public shaming strategy)

if trump were whipping his party to be complaint with something conservative, we'd be 100% in agreement with him.

funny how conservatives want our elected officials to act like conservatives.

of course liberals glorify pelosi for acting like a liberal and getting liberal bills passed.

Trump has linked raising the debt ceiling to the C.R. He is doing ths so he won't have to raise the debt ceiling in mid '25. Largely a matter of pride. An I guess he will have a slightly small majority.

But, picking a public fight here is beyond hubris unless he wants to shut it down. Which I don't have a problem with, but why alienate a good, solid conservative, when he will have very small margins? Let Elon be the agressor, he is filling that role incredibly well.

This is why trump, while a way better option than Biden, will still cause long term problems to the conservative movement and therefore America. He is a big government populist who has some charisma that makes many people worship him as a god.

It's funny watching all the trump worshipers beat up on crinshaw on that other thread when he has the exact some position as trump on Ukraine and is to the right of trump on literally everything (although crinshaws self promoting of his military service is annoying).

there you are acting like Trump calling me out but missing the point, the best interests for Trump right now is to get the CR passed with a debt ceiling change, period.

Mike Tyson punching you a little slower is an improvement….….i guess.

A Republican shows real conservative budget interest, and he gets jumped on by someone touted as a conservative. Well, we knew what we were getting when we cast our vote.

That is one of the things I hate about Trump, he is not a conservative when it comes to spending and deficits - deficits whet thru the roof during his administration -granted alot of the spending was Covid related- but if he ran his business(s) running up so much debt, he would not be in business long, I can't see why he will not apply that to government - Hopefully he will during his upcoming term

The US must get spending under control - we do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem

Ben Shapiro had an interesting take on this budget battle.

Essentially, Trump, Johnson and the Dems already agreed to the bill. His theory is that Trump wants all the spending passed under Dems before he takes office and would like the debt ceiling limit removed, so it's not an issue when he's President.

Kinda sounds like trump

This could be a defining moment for Chip... despite the R next to his name it's no secret that Trump gives zero F's about spending taxpayer money while he's in office.

Populism comes at a price.

Guess my question would be why didn't he just endorse the original bill and add on the debt limit removal, it looks like Elon front-ran him on this, which is starting to become a trend.

Trump is going to cut government. He ran on it and has 2 great businessmen leading that effort.

Everyone without severe TDS knows this won't happen right away. So, why shutdown the government right when he takes office? Why keep doing these over and over until he can do something?

It's grandstanding. Create chaos to try to derail actual progress for Trump to do what his mandate from the people is.

They why put Elon and Vivek over spending cuts? Why make this huge deal over it? No, Trump is going to get spending cut. No Republican in Congress has been able to do that. They grandstand like this and recommend nothing.

And now, try to put barriers in Trump's way before he is even in office.
