Legitimate card. He's been one of the only dictators over there who have made attempts to protect them.

HTS talking big game that they will to but odds are against that based on history.

TBH it wouldn't surprise me if the CIA et. al. said well Trump is going to pull us all out of here so either we do this now, or it never happens. And viola! Massive offensive happens driven by supplies and coordination and contractors courtesy of Uncle Sam.

HTS leader Joulani calling for the UN to come in and start assisting while also monitoring chemical weapons found. We shall see if these are just words or is serious

Assad also asking the west for help and will cut all ties with Iran and other terrorist groups. Little too late

Mostly agree with the sentiments Trump posted, but russia still have those naval bases so they did have a reason to be there besides obama.

Saw that they pulled out of those bases now 100%

Link? That's huge if true.

WSJ saying Assad is in Damascus. Hoo boy.

I think that's a legit point. It's in the US and Israel's best interest to have a stable Lebanese and Syrian governments on "our" side, similar to Jordan and Egypt. Absent that, they don't want Syria to be a hotbed of jihadism in the fashion of ISIS/Al-Quada and they also don't want Iran to have a foothold. If chaos and civil war keeps the fighting focused on each other that's less resources to dedicate to fighting against the US and Israel.

Everything Jolani has said seems to indicate he wants Syria to be run by Syrians and get along with their neighbors. One of their allied militias is already talking peace with Israel. We'll see. My guess is these groups start turning on each other.

The US still has a $10,000,000 bounty on Jolani for his formation of Al-Nusra.

But this thing is also a big power play by Turkey against Russia and Iran. Turkey and Iran are the burgeoning regional rivals here.

Iran and Russia are the big losers in all of this, especially Iran. That's good for us either way.

I'd like to know that too. Will Turkey let them go through the Straits to get into the Black Sea? And are the Russian ports in Crimea in good enough state to handle them? And/or protect them from attack?

TIA.

The speed of which HTS has risen is unnatural unless they had help from outside groups like the CIA/MI6/Massoud. In a very short amount of time multiple factions that have never played well together are working side by side, they are extremely savvy in politics, soldiers are well equipped, and their logistics is at par with western countries. To gain this much territory in a short amount of time requires a ton of supply assets, mainly fuel, weapons, and food, which the East has shown they don't understand.

Is funding HTS worth taking down Assad and reorganizing the Middle East? Is this war and the war in Ukraine worth Russias assets getting bled and losing a key naval port in the Middle East? I think the fact that China is sitting back is telling.

There are some geopolitical geniuses in the CIA but the US has shown over and over again that we excel at making things worse (enter the screwing up the end game quote from Charlie Wilson). We thought we were helping the world by our actions in Iraq but we ended up creating a bigger monster in ISIS. Now if ISIS has turned into HTS and shown to have developed into what we are seeing that is scary.
Eliminating the Iran-Syria corridor to Hezbollah in Lebanon should be a big plus for everybody except Iran and Hezbollah, which is a win in my book.

Austin Tice is still being held, we think by the Syrian regime, after first being abducted in 2012 by militants. Kash Patel made a secret trip to Damascus in 2020 to try to gain information and negotiate his release. Hoping he returns home soon.

Black Sea is closed to belligerent nations, they can't transit the Bosphorus. They have to go to Kalinngrad or St. Petersburg.
