Obviously it wasn't just the swamp if he's already bowed out. If he was completely innocent and had nothing to hide that would have been a time suck and distraction, I guarantee he wouldn't have bowed out. The worst that would have happened would have been that he wasn't confirmed. Its not like the accusations haven't been in the public for a couple of years and obviously didn't hurt his re-election

So, I'm not sure 'the swamp' the reason.

Good. Independent of all the accusations, Gaetz is woefully unqualified to run an organization as large, complex, and dangerous as the DOJ. Trump should find a no-nonsense conservative who's been running a major prosecutors office for 10+ years and turn that guy lose on the swamp, not a hack whose only pretense to "qualified for the job" is making YouTube sound bites.

Nah, the walls are just closing in on a guy with too many skeletons in the closet.

It's incredibly obvious at this point there's some really damning stuff that was going to come to light if he remained in public life.

Completely baseless accusation. Nice.

There are financial records and emails documenting his use of prostitutes.

Now sure, the underage boy/girl stuff may very well be false. But we're at the point where that's a question for the legal side of things. He's clearly not a viable candidate for AG of the United States regardless.

Your DOJ investigated and cleared him. Just stop with your bull**** accusations.

They didn't clear him, they declined to prosecute but withheld all the evidence. It's pretty obvious what happened there.

The DOJ investigation ended it's investigation two years ago!. The House doesn't prosecute people. They don't do criminal investigations.

It's pretty obvious you make baseless claims and dont understand what happened here.
Just to be clear, Gaetz's right hand man in any alleged wrongdoing got sent to prison for 11 years for the things Gaetz is accused of. It seems facially clear that he wasn't being prosecuted because he's a sitting Congressman.

Friends who work in DC also note that Gaetz does not hide how constantly drugged up and horny he is. Not the character I want out of the highest ranking legal officer in the country.
I bet you thought this signature would have a not-so-subtle reference to my political opinions, didn't you? Made you look.

They didn't clear him, they declined to prosecute but withheld all the evidence. It's pretty obvious what happened there.
Obvious? Then say the answer in clear and simple terms. You think he's guilty?

I think it's pretty clear their investigation uncovered some pretty unsavory things but came up short on the underage/minor claims and they didn't want a perceived political witch hunt going down over something as "trivial" as prostitution. Especially with how many congressmen have probably utilized those services. But had they released the findings as they usually do but refused to prosecute, the other side would have been outraged.
So a Merrick Garland DOJ uncovered "unsavory things" about one of the loudest and most outspoken bulldogs against them, and did nothing?

And you somehow think that's obvious that he did something wrong?

Say it, stop dancing. You said there are facts and its obvious. What exactly are accusing him of?

It's beyond reasonable dispute at this point that he has paid prostitutes for sex. We have his messages and Venmo receipts and multiple witnesses. So that would be what I'm accusing him of. I'm sure a lot of congressmen have done the same. But the AG of the United States can't be someone whom it's understood by everyone pays prostitutes for sex.
The DOJ's "star witness" is a hooker - probably not the cornerstone you want to build a case around.

Agree. That said, he might be interested in the SCOTUS when Thomas retires. Rumors have been strong for a while that Thomas was ready to retire when the Republicans held the POTUS again.

I mean, how much of a star do you need when you have all the other evidence they claim to possess?

Unless they're just saying they have receipts they don't actually have he's cooked on that specific allegation. Venmo payments to the guys who runs the hookers is pretty tough to explain away.

That makes zero sense. Less than zero actually. Garland would have been more than happy to prosecute Gaetz had there been anything there.

Are you aware that many sitting congress people have been indicted on federal charges while in office? Some have even been convicted. You're obviously not aware because you've come up with that cockamamie theory about why he wasn't charged.

1. Who is his right hand man? What was he a right hand man for? What was sent to prison for? Being a pedo? Do you have proof of their relationship as man and right hand man aside from your friends that work in DC? Actual proof?

2. Your friends tell you that Gaetz runs around telling them and people they know how horny he is and how he likes to do drugs? What doo your friends do and what politicians do they work for? You are asking people to take hearsay as truth, but I think its important to understand exactly where the heresay is coming from before I believe it.

3. Do you have any facts or proof of anything outside of your buddies telling you things that might or might not be true?

Just trying to separate actual fact from narrative. Completely open minded if you can provide more than "my friends claim".

https://www.mediaite.com/news/gaetz-dropped-out-after-cnn-inquiry-about-new-allegation-involving-threesome-with-17-year-old/

Quote:

According to CNN chief legal correspondent Paula Reid, "we [CNN] called to say we were going to report that 'Ethics committee told there was a *second* sexual encounter between Gaetz and 17 year old in 2017,'" and Gaetz withdrew 45 minutes later.

Quote:

"They asked us to give them an hour. We did," said Reid, explaining that they had told Gaetz's team they would go live at 12:30 pm, "and about a moment before I was supposed to come on air and share the new reporting…we didn't get a statement from Gaetz, and instead we got the statement saying that he was withdrawing as the attorney general pick."

Reid summarized what the new reporting was that "the woman who is at the center of these allegations that he had sex with a minor, has told the ethics committee that when she was just 17, she had not one but two sexual encounters with Gaetz at a party in Florida. And that that sexual second encounter involved an adult woman."

I guess the lesson here is don't have sex with 17 year olds and have political aspirations..unless you're Bill Clinton.

Wrong. It's that he pisses off people who I trust the least. I don't personally care about Gaetz. I like that he was hovering over the right targets. If he's a POS, then fine, can his ass. Assuming there are actual facts that support it. Hopefully someone even better replaces him.

Not implying this was Trump "4D chess", but now he knows who's going to be loyal and support him and who won't.

We can all discuss whether it was a good pick or not, but if you are a person of power and were publicly against this, it's clear you aren't all in on Trump's agenda.

If you had concerns, pick up the phone and talk to him. (And if you can't because you don't have access, then your opinion does t really matter.) Criticizing him in public just helps keep the party fractured. If there's one things Dems are good at it's jumping onboard quickly regardless of whether they agree or not.

From what I've read, Trump is open to discussions and differing opinions. But if you thought the best course of action was to go the media, then you aren't going to be willing to defend some very tough, but necessary decisions he's going to make in the coming months.

Glad we've got those folks identified now before the real work starts.
