But everyone hates gaetz because he bragged about sleeping with girls?

I think he comes off as grating to people and immature. I think he burned bridges trying to switch up the GOP speaker when we barely had a majority and should have been focused elsewhere.

If you meet an ******* in the morning, you met an *******. If you met *******s all day, you're the *******. Hardly anyone seems to be able to stand the guy.

Plus it's not like he is some "outsider". He has spent his entire life in politics.
And every bit of this is irrelevant. 90% of the people in DC are a-holes including your boy Biden. It doesn't mean he shouldn't be confirmed. He is the choice of the new president, the one with a huge mandate. Unless there is something irrefutably illegal in his past, Republicans should vote to confirm.

I was replying to a comment saying that Gaetz is only disliked because he is disrupting the swamp. I was saying that he might just be an ahole that no one likes to deal with. I said nothing regarding confirmation.

I know he's on his way out but I don't trust most republicans in Congress and expect them to be a major pain in the ass and this makes me wonder what he knows.

I'm sure this is just silly banter and Gaetz isn't liked because of his sexual escapades.

So Gaetz calls Waynemark out for his corruption and Waynemark responds by saying Gaetz shows him sexy videos on the House floor?

A quick search shows Mullin's net worth is mostly real estate and the businesses he started and sold. Gaetz's entire career has come from his dad, so I can see why he'd be jealous of people who actually earned their wealth and spend his time banging teenagers.

He's not jealous of anything. Many congress people - including Mullin - are getting rich (or richer) through insider stock trading, not that you give a damn.

That's what Gaetz was criticizing, my liberal friend.

I'm perfectly fine with stopping congresspeople from owning stocks. My point was the idea that Mullin was calling out Gaetz for being a gross weirdo only because Gaetz was talking about the stock trading ban is nonsensical given that the large majority of Mullin's worth is from business and real estate.

And thank you for confirming that the juvenile trend of calling anyone who disagrees with you a liberal (despite never voting for a dem in my life) has continued even with Trump's win.

What are the trades by Mullin that were insider trading? If he is a criminal, he need to be arrested!

(For the record, I do not think Gaetz is a "human trafficker" as alleged and I believe he should be confirmed as Atty Gen, so lets not get into the name calling)

You'll have to ask Gaetz about that. I was simply correcting Walter for his misinformation.

No one on here has name called. Referring to a liberal as a liberal is not name calling. You are free to call me a conservative, I promise I won't get my feelings hurt.

Because being called a liberal is an insult! Being called a conservative is a badge of honor!

Its like saying "you can call me smart"

Back to Mullins, I assumed you knew the basis of the allegations based on the phrasing of your post. My apologies!

Then it should be easy to find one liberal viewpoint I hold or one liberal politician that I've supported. Or you can admit you just made it up and we can move on.

Back to the topic, sounds like parts of the report are starting to leak out, and we at least know one person testified to the committee that she witnessed Gaetz sleeping with a 17 year old. Hopefully they just release the whole thing and everyone can make their own judgment.

My theory is still that he'll drop out before he goes under any real scrutiny and end up taking a job in the admin that doesn't require approval, but I guess we'll see.

I don't know if any of this is correct as I (and probably everyone here) knows nothing about this Vacancies Reform Act, but according to "PresidentialTransition.Org" These are who can be an "Acting" cabinet member:

When a PAS position becomes vacant, there are three types of officials who may carry out the duties of the office in an acting capacity, without Senate confirmation.

Quote:

1. The "first assistant" becomes the acting officer unless the president designates another individual from the other two eligible classes of officials. The Vacancies Act does not define "first assistant," but the term has generally been interpreted to mean the top deputy to the position.

2. The president may designate as the acting official an individual who serves in another PAS position anywhere in the federal government.

3. The president may designate as the acting official an agency employee who is paid at the GS-15 rate or above and who has been an employee of the agency for at least 90 of the past 365 days preceding the vacancy.

Does Gaetz fit any of these? Does not appear to as far as I can tell.

There is also this:

Quote:

In March 2017, the Supreme Court ruled in National Labor Relations Board v. SW General, Inc. that the Vacancies Act generally prohibits a person from serving in an acting capacity while concurrently the nominee for the position, though there are some exceptions. The court's analysis was similar to that of the Office of Personnel Management's inspector general, who in February 2016 issued a memorandum finding that Beth Cobert's service as acting OPM director was in violation of the Vacancies Act once President Obama nominated her for the position.
Has Gaetz been "nominated"? Is that an official thing?

Yeah I posted that because it seems too murky. Further, as we saw in the Mar A Lago documents case, it appears to violate the appointments clause.

But then it becomes a question of who can sue to prevent it? Unsure.
TRM

I would think someone effected by the decision-making of Gaetz as AG should be able to sue since they'd be able to argue his decisions aren't lawfully since his appointment was invalid.

I said prevent it before the appointment under that particular statute.

But, there could be a defendant who could fit that niche for standing with a criminal indictment against them.

He is awesome because he challenges the establishment RINO thinking and owns the left consistently.

I don't know why so many "conservatives" oppose him.....

Do you want real change or not? Gaetz will bring real change and prosecute the outgoing corrupt FBI employees. This is what WE voted for.

I think US Attorneys sign indictments. More likely to have someone that he fires or takes adverse employment action against challenge his capacity to act, I would think.

Agree. But AGs tend to have a predilection for starting their announcements of indictments to say something like, "At my direction, the US Attorney for X district began an investigation into...."

Which is why I called it a niche. As long as the US Attorney is duly appointed and confirmed, collaterally attacking an indictment using Gaetz would be unsuccessful, barring a scenario like above.

So what? Dems aren't concerned about appearing impartial and will continue using DOJ & FBI against conservatives regardless of whomever they appoint. You can't get any more partisan than Holder or Garland.

I agree that worrying about what the Democrats might do in the future is pointless. My objection to Gaetz is that I don't think he's up to the job, regardless of how loyal he's been to Trump. If you want to undo the damage done by Holder and Garland, you need someone competent leading the charge, and there is simply nothing in Gaetz's resume that says he's that guy.
