If you actually read what people on this board think about Gaetz, you would see we don't agree with cornyn. We simply think Gaetz hasn't show the level head, strategy first approach to cleaning anything up. He tends to go off but not get anything done.

People being very confused about what the end goal was, what the strategy was to get to that goal and the execution of that strategy. Had a hodgepodge feel to it as it was happening. Did not feel like a well thought out plan.
Gaetz may come out and explain it better but right now, it does appear to have credibility as a possibility. Would be happy to be proven completely wrong on this.

Normally, when you belong to a professional organization and have an ethics complaint filed against you, you can't skirt it by resigning; the investigation goes on. Some will allow to you resign as long as you promise to never apply for reinstatement. If Gaetz gets the job, goes in and does a good job reorganizing the department, that would be fine by me, but that appears to be a huge longshot. Nothing in his background suggests that he's ready to manage an operation of this size, not to mention the complex issues the AG is confronted with from time to time. Gaetz is a PR guy at heart, and I just have a hard time seeing that being the right approach unless he were to hire some deputy with ninja like qualities who essentially runs the department and covers his shortcomings.aggiehawg said:

With the way Charlie Kirk and others have been playing up the cabinet announcements leads me to believe they had foreknowledge of them. Kirk even going so far as to say the old "I can neither confirm or deny" line as a way of a wink wink about some wave making announcements. Things are not being handled in a way we have seen before. Not sure what to expect but I think there actually is a plan. YMMV

Or it could have been done specifically to catch certain people off guard…
Or it could have been done as a strategy to get them to balk at Gaetz so they could get someone else controversial in (maybe a Paxton, but that's speculation)…
Or it could have been a warning shot aimed right at the criminals who have been using lawfare against their enemies that they need to GTFO (resign/retire) before someone like Gaetz, with an ax to grind, is in position to come after them…

He literally has beaten EVERYTHING they've thrown at him, and it is unprecedented in American politics…
Team Trump knows they have an unprecedented mandate, especially in light of everything he has had to endure, and because of that, I believe they are taking this unique opportunity (with great assistance from Elon Musk, who sure seems like he's shaping up to be the anti-Soros) to rewrite the rules and change the battlefield…

On what basis? No one has been able to say how that would work. Personally, I don't trust the state of Florida to royally **** this up, and the special election gets tossed because the governor didn't have the power to call for a special election when he did. Still a lot can happen between now and the actual House vote on it. But to your point, yeah, I never would have bet on that being as unanimous and quiet as it appeared.

Because there isn't a current vacancy (there is, but it's for the term that expires on 1/3/3025). I've also said before that there could be some arcane law that allows a special election to be called when the person elected chooses not to serve. But I haven't seen it.
