Once COVID hit, we all go home and this guy had literally zero production for the entire year. I watched in amazement.

He did finally engage again but nowhere near even average level of production.

Now, before he went into quiet quitting mode, he was a top performer. Perhaps that plays into it.

I will strongly consider doing what he did before I retire.

Well he probably got sick and tired of his 1% raise with zero bonus when the CEO got a 50% bonus when the stock price fell 50%.

This is today's corporate America.

Lots of brainwashed people here on this board who cannot see the reality and keep fighting for some ideals from the 1950s that are no longer happening anymore.

The coworker likely saw undeserving people getting rich so felt that he will also scam the company in return. He makes money through trading because he is smart, and has the company pay for his insurance. He is now okay with 1% raise and no bonus because he makes millions in the stock market. I know because I do the same.

I frankly don't care - don't need to work - but the young lawyers and labor professionals working for me (all but one of whom were hired into 'virtual' roles) have to figure out somewhere to go - and like me, they are basically on the road 3 of every 4 weeks as it is.


I'd be pissed if I hired into a REMOTE job that they later changed into an OFFICE job. Regardless of where the office is.

Hell, part of the reason many of those folks took the job was BECAUSE it was remote.

It's no different than when a company moves their HQ or their entire operation from one city to another.

But, in the latter situation, the company typically offers some kind of deal to move or a severance package to leave.

Walmart folks had to deal with this in 2024. I was working with a recruiter for a tech job at WMT. The women just stopped replying as my interviews were on. Then I found out she quit because they made her move from her town to a hub office. I then got an offer with another team and the recruiter in Dallas quit too because they asked her to move.

You realize the success of the market that you've so enthusiastically shared with us your financial success in is predicated on the success of many of these companies...probably most of these companies.

On one hand, I agree with you that the economy is certainly shifting away from providing upward mobility for huge swaths of workers.

On the other hand, you invest in it and personally benefit from it.

Yes, I know, "what other option do I have?" You don't, truthfully. I think investing in these companies is the right move. You invest in the market you have, not the one that you want to be. All that being said, it's just not as simple as evil corporations must pay. There are down stream impacts of the accountability that some would like to see be applied immediately to these corporations that we can't even imagine. They can be bad actors, absolutely.

Even just the start of what you want to be regulated is misleading..."You can't just hire a bunch of people..." You state it like it's taking cans of soup off the grocery store shelf and putting them in your cart. The cans of soup, in this case, had a choice of whether to get in the cart or not.

Oh, I have no illusions of being the next Elon, lol.

But I sure as heck don't live in a slum, and not because the government regulated who corporations could hire and fire. But precisely because the government doesn't do that. I continue to make my way up the ladder because my company has the ability to 1) promote the hardworkers who produce and 2) fire the lazy schmucks who decided to "work" from home and now whine about only getting a 3% annual raise even though their productivity and margins have gone in the crapper.

Some jobs work great remote. Some don't. In my experience, there needs to be at least a few days a week of meeting face to face to solve problems.


I've been about 95% remote almost 7 years. Meeting with people us nice from time to time but we can and have solved complicated problems with teams of mostly remote people. Plus we can recruit the best people without making them move or limiting ourselves to one metro area.
