i can already hear the teeth gnashing if republicans pull this off and it tips the scales

maine promised to do the same to offset EC implications, but maine law would not allow a winner-take-all change to take effect before the election. potentially significant because it would mean MI-WI-PA would no longer be enough for harris to win, she'd need one of GA, AZ, NV, NC as well.

very savvy and ruthless move if this ends up deciding the election

Good! About time the Republicans start playing by the same rules.

How is that a 'Hail Mary' for the Trump campaign?

That's just smart politics by the Republicans. Glad they have more gamesmanship than they did in 2020.

The fact that its this close and we are discussing a tactic like this is a testament of how broken the country is. Even if Trump wins this time, we are on the fast train to disaster and communism.

If republicans somehow get this done, big if, do dems have the option of pushing through an emergency injunction of some sort to allow this to not have an effect before electors have to be assigned?

Desperate move by a desperate party who knows they're going to lose and so has to use dirty tactics like making 11th hour changes to election laws to favor themselves

This has been in the works since last spring. Only lately has a particular rather liberal Republican state senator from the Omaha area been "won" over the idea, which was considered necessary to push support for the change over the top.

If it happens we can thank the efforts of grassroots activists within Nebraska, as well as Turning Point for leading the effort.

If they are going to lose, why would this matter to Dems then? Unless they think this election will be close. It's just one EC vote after all.

Oh, the irony of this bull*****

Do you remember changing the Senate confirmation rules regarding federal judge confirmation? How'd that work out?

Let's not even get into the way the democrats violated their own states' constitutions last election so they could cheat to "win."

Kind of like switching your dementia riddled candidate after primary season when it became obvious he was on the track for a massive tail kicking in the general election?

I'm surprised it hasn't been this way forever. It never made sense the now old way.

Dirtier than bringing in suitcases of ballots in the middle of the night when nobody is there? Dirtier than reporting 100% Dem votes for a county that has less people than voters in WI? Dirtier than putting up boards over windows so people can't see the actual counting of ballots?

Man, that must be really dirty.

Wish we could focus on making these God-hating anti-American leftists feel less welcome. So many other options that would be a better fit for them.

But like parasites, they must infest and try to destroy every institution.

I don't care what you have accomplished in your life...if you are a leftist, you are not an Aggie to me. Just like you cannot be a Christian.

Now do the 2020 election when Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin changed their election law before the election.

That doesn't answer the question, how is it a Hail Mary? That's just smart politics and would be a cherry on top.

So when your party maneuvers for votes...it's smart and can dunk on Republicans for it.

When Republicans do it...it's desperate because they know they're going to lose and it's inevitable.

The logic of the Biden/Harris voter.

don't forget Texas, and these were lawful changes made well in advance of the election, to accommodate a major thing that was going on at the time.

changing election laws 6 weeks before the election violates Purcell. and if Nebraska does this, they intentionally waited this long just so Maine couldn't counteract it.

WRONG!!

States have complete discretion on how to appoint their electors. There would be no basis to find such I moved by Nebraska to be unconstitutional.

Thus, there would never be a stay. So any challenger to this law would never be able to prove likelihood of success on the merits!

No, those state's courts had no right to change election law. Only their legislatures could do that.

Maine doesn't have time to do this like Nebraska. It takes 90 days for the law to go into effect in Maine. We are 86 days out from electors casting their votes in Maine this cycle.

This was calculated by the Trump team. Well done! Hope they can pull it off.

You're talking about Michigan refusing to take RFK's name off the ballot even though he's no longer running?
