Looks like there's an October 1 deadline between International Longshoremen Association and the US Maritime Alliance. No meetings currently planned and no negotiations happening at this time.

Looks like this will affect the East and Gulf Coast. Also another union on the West Coast could strike in support.

It's not the whole video. Just the first 7 minutes or so.

This could be the October surprise. He says they aren't at the table and the feds are sitting in their hands.

This strike is going to happen. I think they picked Oct 1 because they think the Biden Harris administration will step in and settle it quickly in the unions favor so democrats get elected in Nov.

The unions position on not allowing technology to replace any of their jobs in the future is totally unreasonable and will never happen. I don't know enough to comment on the pay raises the union is asking for.

Can Biden do this?

You may be onto something with the timing and hoping the current administration steps in. Otherwise, it seems accepting meetings would be the right thing to do.

F unions!

Memory fails me. Is that what caused all the horrific backups of the coast of LA a few years ago?

Bangup failure by Pete as Secretary of Transportation as I recall.

No strike. It was just the inefficiencies catching up with us from lack of automation relative to foreign ports and the Jones Act.

And stupid California laws about stacking of truck beds.....red tape caused the major issues.

Boeing strike and port strike all at the same time. Both will cost billions and 1 month before the election. And potential government shutdown.

Both candidates favor unions. The union is going to get what they want.

Just did a quick search and didn't see much of anything about this in the news

NYT article from 2 days ago says the two sides still stem at the table. Speculation is the dock workers want $5/hr a year and the docks are offering $2.5 a year. Additionally docks want increased automation which is a non starter for the union.

Biden WH isn't signaling signs of using a 1947 law to order the longshoremen back to work if they do strike.

Most of them will end up out of a job and losing in the end...see UPS, UAW, etc...

No matter how the negotiations go, you can bet on two things the American public will get the short end of the stick, and, Biden/Harris/MSM will blame this on Trump.

Boeing strike is feckless they have no leverage one way or another.

A strike at the Ports that lasts any time at all can get devastating very quickly. Supply chains are still playing catchup and won't take much right now to become DEFCON level bad. Our dependence on foreign suppliers is still beyond unhealthy. If Biden can't shut this down the Democrats are done, and gauging off of his current state he's done. Harris can't even get in the negotiations conversation because her Marxist policies aren't union friendly.
