Quote:

Trump won the Iowa Republican caucuses with strong support from White evangelicals and very conservative voters key voting blocs in these caucuses and groups he lost in 2016 when voters were less convinced of his conservative credentials, according interviews with caucus-goers as they went in.

So, the most conservative went with Trump, more than even 2016. They understand that Trump was the most conservative candidate we've had in a long time. Even more conservative than Reagan.

Conservatives had an option and chose Trump, as they've seen his actions.

I think once he threw his hat in the ring no amount trying to hug it out was going to work. Aim for the king better not miss, etc.

At least Ted Cruz isn't being accused of cheating or his family being linked to JFK''s assassin this go round. That's kind of like hugging it out.

He is a little too wonkish for most.

I'm m beginning to lean this way. He just couldn't make the connection to the people.
So we need someone who is as cognitive/coherent as Biden was in 2020 and mostly talks about infantile nicknames?

That is why this country has become Idiocracy.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

  • Poor timing on announcement. Should have kneecapped some of the lesser tier candidates to have a smaller debate stages (Thanks Ronna)
  • The failed Twitter campaign launch.
  • The rise of Haley kept DeSantis from getting the anti-Trump vote
  • Failure to win a majority of the pro-Trump policy voters (Vivek did his part here)

The Twitter problem was on Twitter ****ing up.

And it was obvious that Ronna was doing everything she could to rig it for Trump, and Vivek was there to take away voted from DeSantis or any other actual conservative. Snake oil still sells.
He should have done the announcement in reverse order. He did the Twitter space at 6 Eastern and did Gowdy on FoxNews at 8 pm. He should have done Special Report with Bair or announced with Gowdy then done the Twitter space afterwards.

Well people are stupid.

And we'll get more of the same. Congrats?

Also it's laughable that Trump is more conservative than DeSantis. Straight up cult nonsense.

DeSantis really should have waited until he was out of the Gov's office and starting running while he was out of office.

He had nothing to lose by waiting. But by waiting, he had everything to gain in 2028.

DeSantis listen to the wrong people, he made a terrible mistake. Florida will not forgive him in the next election.

if he had followed Abbott's lead and help unify the incumbent's position rather than challenge him,…..not very smart on his part.

If DeSantis hitched himself to Trump as his VP, he would have ended his future political career.

Trump wins, he'd turn on DeSantis by the end and make him a pariah like he did Pence.

Trump loses, he'd turn on DeSantis immediately and make him a pariah as the scapegoat for the loss...

MAGA would hate him and Not Trump would never trust him.

The only thing that makes sense is DeSantis thought Trump's legal issues would force Trump to withdraw and DeSantis would be ready to take the nomination.

What's truly baffling is Haley's rise to even or ahead of DeSantis
She's not that good of a politician,

I think for better or worse he's a policy nerd and that's all that he cares about, and he refuses to get into the low brow meme bs that Trump brings to table (just look how that worked for Rubio in '16). That doesn't work currently when a big chunk of the electorate doesn't care about policy and just wants yell "owned!!!" at people on the internet. It is what it is but will hopefully go back to normal after '24.

Should DeSantis have embraced Trump at the beginning? Trump was the most conservative POTUS in a long time, even more than Regan according to actual conservative research. DeSantis could have ridden that and been Trump's VP. Get his name out there as a serious national contender.

He could have learned how to appeal to the masses, run an efficient NATIONAL campaign and set himself up well for 2028. But his awful campaign cost him. His campaign was such a disaster, he was able to get the most popular politician to back him and still lose by an huge margins.

And his focus was Iowa. He put everything he had there. Went out prior to the caucus and "secured" backers.

And now that term limits put him out of Florida governor role, I'm not sure what his next step is. Maybe run for congress? Dude needs to do something to get back to relevance.

He had great potential. It's too bad what he did to himself. He just wasn't ready for a national campaign.

Totally agree and have posted similarly several times.

again, F16 can't see the obvious:

1. DeSantis has no charisma, no charm, no personal touch, not likeable

2. His campaign themes were negative. I'm fighting against WOKE a/b/c. No positive vision he could articulate and have that message break through the noise.

3. Unlikeable to women.

4. Chose the lane of "MAGA voters who won't vote for Trump." Which is probably less than 10% of the GOP. He turned off Never Trumpers, he turned off traditional GOP foreign policy people.

5. He didn't run a mean, lean campaign. He was profligate. And he ran out of money quick. He's 'going to be really fiscally consevative, but he can't even manage the money in his campaign.

Trump was never going to support Ron in any capacity. By even running against him he challenged Don's ego.

And he will never be accepted by MAGA voters. So, when Trump, Jr. takes the grift over from Dad in 2028, you'll just him drop meme bombs and gotcha posts on DeSantis and MAGA will continue to clobber him if he chooses to run against the Dear Family ever again.

His first election, he asked Trump for support and Trumps suppr helped him win.

President Donald Trump's endorsement lifted U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis to victory in Florida's Republican primary for governor Tuesday and abruptly halted the long rise of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, for years a darling of the state's GOP establishment.

Your statement is just flat wrong.

Not sure you understood what I am getting at. Trump loved him when he was President and DeSantis was running for governor. But the moment he took on Trump for President, he was disloyal and the MAGA crew decided to make it clear he was to be punished. DeSanctimonious was all Trump's creation when he decided to run against him.

So it's not wrong to say he will never get their support again.

DeSantis is good off the cuff. This campaign didn't get him enough time doing that in front of a national audience.

Conviction by November is unlikely and of course it can be appealed. If SCOTUS decides states can remove Trump from the ballot for insurrection that might be an opening for Haley or DeSantis
