This is not a troll post. I'd like a discussion on DeSantis. However, if it's deemed a troll post, just say so and I'll delete my post.

Should DeSantis have embraced Trump at the beginning? Trump was the most conservative POTUS in a long time, even more than Regan according to actual conservative research. DeSantis could have ridden that and been Trump's VP. Get his name out there as a serious national contender.

He could have learned how to appeal to the masses, run an efficient NATIONAL campaign and set himself up well for 2028. But his awful campaign cost him. His campaign was such a disaster, he was able to get the most popular politician to back him and still lose by an huge margins.

And his focus was Iowa. He put everything he had there. Went out prior to the caucus and "secured" backers.

And now that term limits put him out of Florida governor role, I'm not sure what his next step is. Maybe run for congress? Dude needs to do something to get back to relevance.

He had great potential. It's too bad what he did to himself. He just wasn't ready for a national campaign.

Trump was never going to support Ron in any capacity. By even running against him he challenged Don's ego.

He's the best candidate out there but the media and Dems have masterfully manipulated the GOP base by making Trump a martyr to them and telling them the revenge they crave is guaranteed

Meanwhile Dems are working overtime to make sure there are no obstacles to the 20 million illegals they've allowed in can all vote for Biden in November

No, he should have went harder after him and magnified the differences.

Wouldn't have mattered. Never seen an election season that's relatively unknown like this one. The free media coverage was practically non existent for anyone but trump.

I don't see Trump winning in November.

If Trump didn't run, Desantis would easily be the frontrunner for the nomination (especially if Trump endorsed him), but he's been forced to spend his campaign talking about Trump.

If Desantis was the GOP nominee, I think he easily wins in November.

Trump very likely cost us the 2024 election.

DeSantis is the best conservative politician in 100 years but MAGA Republicans are too stupid to see it. They deserve everything they are going to get from the Biden Regime in the 2nd term.

He should've tied his wagon to the Goat & he'd have been set for 4 years as vp & 8 as president

And he will never be accepted by MAGA voters. So, when Trump, Jr. takes the grift over from Dad in 2028, you'll just see him drop meme bombs and gotcha posts on DeSantis and MAGA will continue to clobber him if he chooses to run against the Dear Family ever again.

See Pence. Working for Trump does not benefit your political career.

Had he gone the sycophant VP route, there is a high likelihood he would be fully despised by Trump and MAGA by 2028.

Gov. DeSantis didn't connect , he never got any momentum. I don't know why. He seems like the perfect candidate. ( Family, Service, Experience).

I give Trump a lot of credit. He reaches a certain audience and they are faithful to him. Just because me or my family won't vote for him doesn't mean he isn't deserving of the nomination. He is going to win it fair and square.

no one with any class or brains would want the stink of Trumps **** on them.

DeSantis will be fine.

Come January 20, 2025, Trump will still be sitting home in Mar-a-Lago. DeSantis will still be governor of Florida.

If he wanted the nomination, he would have needed to kiss the ring early, continually repeat the stolen election narrative, and announce one of Trump's kids as VP.

Even if Trump would have accepted the role of King maker, the price may have been too high for DeSantis.

Personally, I don't think he needed to embrace Trump at the beginning. He was polling very close to Trump before he announced and I think there were serious concerns over whether Trump could beat Biden, especially with all of the legal challenges.

DeSantis saw his shot and took for it, but he has run a strategically weak campaign. He has an incredible record as the governor of Florida but that is not enough to win a primary. I think he should have hit Trump harder and sooner, but he was scared of completely alienating 1/3 of the republicans base. He could have risked that because if he were to get to the general Republicans typically turn out regardless.

At this point his best bet is to remain governor of Florida and hope one of Rick Scott/Marco Rubio gets tabbed for a cabinet position and he can run to replace them.

The easy choice would have been to wait. The choice best for the country was to challenge Trump and give conservatives a way forward.

Unfortunately the Jonestown crew are all in, and it may lead to more democrat rule.

This. At the very least, Desantis or even Haley would have forced Dems to put up a real alternative to the vegetable. Trump means Xiden 2.0. The saddest part is the MAGA clowns will spend two years whining about election fraud instead of looking at the real problem.

DeSantis was within single points of Trump.

Then the indictments started and Trump got a 20+ point bump overnight.

Democrats have done every thing possible to help Trump and played MAGA like a fiddle.

DeSantis misread the room.

He underestimated the power the power of incumbency. And make no mistake about it, Trump for all practical purposes was an incumbent president. This was a fatal strategic error.

His other error was the 6 week abortion law in Florida. After that passed he lost all momentum with independents and suburban women. This is where Haley began peeling off those voters.

All in all a damn shame, because DeSantis would have made a excellent president.

Ron received bad advice to get into this race to begin with and should have sat this election out. It was not his time.

To think that waiting 4 years is practical is idiotic, yah...there MAY still be an opportunity...But in 4 years he would be the president of a heaping pile of rubbish

I'm sure there will be plenty of words about DeSantis at this point but I really don't think there is anything he could have done to overcome Trump and the GOPe working together to take him down. I think we are headed to a Trump/Haley ticket and I'm glad DeSantis won't be a part of it. The man has run a race with integrity and done everything he could to show people what they could have with him. They don't want competence or conservatism. So be it. We get the government we deserve.

The biggest thing to come out of this for me was I learned a great deal for good and bad about many politicians and members of the "conservative" media. I won't forget either.

  • Poor timing on announcement. Should have kneecapped some of the lesser tier candidates to have a smaller debate stages (Thanks Ronna)
  • The failed Twitter campaign launch.
  • The rise of Haley kept DeSantis from getting the anti-Trump vote
  • Failure to win a majority of the pro-Trump policy voters (Vivek did his part here)

The good thing is most of the "conservative media" will go the way of the dodo once they no longer have Trump around. They sold their souls and people will not forget they showed they actually have no principles.

In my opinion, the biggest factor is that DeSantis (correctly) assumed that nominating Trump means a Biden or Newsom win in '24, and because of that he decided that he had to at least try, even if it meant angering the percentage of the party that is still devoted to Trump no matter what.

I also think he incorrectly assumed the rest of the non-Trump part of the party would be smart enough to drop Haley and consolidate behind one non-Trump option. No one was ever unseating trump if they were splitting the votes, same as 2016.

It seems like it didn't work this time around, but he got his name out there and will be in good shape to pick up whatever is left of the party after yet another Trump fueled loss. 2028 is a long way away and there's no way someone with his background, organization and drive is done in politics. Not to mention he'll have an amazing "I tried to tell you" case to make.

The Twitter problem was on Twitter ****ing up.

And it was obvious that Ronna was doing everything she could to rig it for Trump, and Vivek was there to take away voted from DeSantis or any other actual conservative. Snake oil still sells.
