A lot, and I mean a lot, of Middle Easterns do their pilot training at Denton. The training facility there has vans that go all over Denton to pick up the students. Always full...and to a person they are all of Middle East origin.

Exactly…..and lot of those Middle Eastern pilots struggle with taking commands from women instructor pilots and women controllers. You're probably familiar with the double fatality crash that occurred a couple of years ago at Gainesville which was a Middle Eastern, male student with a female instructor….from that flight school in Denton practicing maneuvers at the Gainesville field. The educated speculation ( there is no box in small aircraft) is that the student refused to cede control of the aircraft to the instructor when he began having problems. Rumor has it that some instructors now carry weapons in order to avoid similar occurrences.

Not to rain on anyone's parade and I'm unsure how Denton Airport operates, but I don't believe this is an FAA position. These municipal airports do their own hires and are usually staffed by ATC's who couldn't cut it with the FAA or by retirees as I believe the required retirement age of ATCs is 56. So a lot of ATCs leave the radar room or tower and get their full retirement/pension and then work another 5 years with better hours at a muni airport.

But the key word here is "Denton".

Whether FAA or local hire, odds are good that in Denton it would be a DEI hire. The City of Denton is the ugly blue dot in the middle of the red Denton County.

Very well aware as I live here...Denton is weird. And I'm not talking Austin in the early-mid 2000s weird where it's heavy indy music and hipsterish vibes. I'm talking the entire student population and staff seem to be taking mushrooms 24/7 weird.

And I just looked it up and the Advisory board does indeed report to the city council. So it would not shock me in the slightest if you're correct.

I was just unaware if this was a privately run airport or if the city was involved and I wanted to give depth to how this stuff is normally staffed.

The pilot and the controller are both right and both wrong.

A "short approach" is one where you begin your final turn much earlier than normal. Normal is about 1/2 to one mile upwind from the numbers. A short approach is when you begin your turn shorter than that, as early as the numbers.

She is correct that a short approach can be at the numbers/threshold. She is wrong that it has to be at the numbers. It is just shorter than normal.

He is right that it is not necessarily at the numbers. He is wrong that it is only for a simulated/actual power off landing. You can make a short approach to ensure spacing in front of another inbound aircraft as well.

Good old DTO. She's notorious for being argumentative, condescending, harsh for no reason, and unwilling to help those who aren't 110% familiar with her airport and all of the nuances like obscure waypoints (argyle water tower, Peter built factory, 380 and the railroad tracks).

There's an entire Instagram page dedicated to that tower, but it's mainly her:

Wow, you know it's bad if it goes to this level.

Yet, incompetency stays in place...for some reason.
Incompetency usually gets promoted.

I moved a whopping 3 miles to Corinth about 6 years ago. World of refreshing difference between Denton city policies and Corinth's.

And the homeless population in Denton is completely out of control.

No, thinking a little more about 9/11.

Not sure where many of them trained, or if even in the United States,. And yes, I know that's stereotyping.

Actually, these controllers do not work for the FAA. They could be a former military controller or retired FAA controller however, at some point she was certified by the FAA. The city of Denton does not hire these controllers nor do most contract facilities. They are hired by contractor RVA, Robinson Aviation.

This controller has always been combative, even while working for the FAA. How would I know? I am a former FAA controller and had some interactions with her.

Controllers should never tell a pilot how to fly their aircraft. The PIC is the final authority for that aircraft. period and end of topic!!

You're going so overboard with this it's amusing and you seem to be having a good time embarrassing yourself so I won't stop you.

Good luck with your next flight. I hope it isn't a DEI hire or someone googling how to do their job either behind the controls or in the tower.

I fly all the time, and I rarely worry about it, nor will I now, but it does make me wonder who the hell is sitting behind the wall but I hear crap like this.
