And to add to your sentiment, I have known many non-religious, even agnostic (including one of my brothers and his wife) who had their children participate in church activities, even attend Christian schools, because they love the message, regardless of their beliefs. I had a women who worked for me for years, a Muslim, who allowed her own daughter to convert to Christianity because she realized the message made her daughter happy and feel secure.

He has made statements condemning the rise in anti-Christian incidents in Israel, so I guess you may be referring to that? Or something else? Seems to me his priority is where it should be, protecting his flock and praying for peace. I also doubt that an anti-Israel bishop would be offering himself up in exchange for Jewish hostages.

Israel's response is that they are conducting an investigation. And THAT makes sense. If they came out instantly and flatly denied it, then that would sketchy. Christians taking refuge in churches has been reported throughout this conflict. A former US congressman with family who are Orthodox Christians living in the area has had several family members killed who were attempting to shelter in a church.
Interesting though that the Christian community in the area doesn't seem to be fully on Israel's side. Sean Hannity told me Israel = always good Israel's enemies = always bad.
