I doubt Gaetz has enough republican votes to do this, which means he's wasting everyone's time and unnecessarily causing division in the party.

Unless his plan is to get support from democrats. But he wouldn't do that... Would he?

I tend to agree. The Republican Party leadership cannot hold a coalition together for damn near anything. Getting very close to the 2024 election so they need to get their **** together.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

I doubt they're on either team, but they'll certainly use this to their advantage because Gaetz is a self-serving idiot. He's literally handing power to the Dems with this move. He knows this and doesn't care because he's just concerned with his own career path.

A limited power sharing agreement with the Dems could work. Ensure that clean budget bills can come up for a vote and allow a few Dem bills be sent to the floor.

So pointless. McCarthy BARELY controls 1/3 of the elected portion of federal government.

He and the SCOTUS are the last thing stopping the Dems from tolling over the Republicans. If you think moderate Republicans are bad, try letting the Dems back into power now. Replacing a McCarthy is going to be difficult because NOBODY wants that job. He is thanklessly herding cats that all love to virtue signal to their own power bases and pretend to be defiant and bold when they mostly achieve very little, and at the great risk of annoying a majority of Americans with obstructionism into putting the Dems completely back into power.

I'm not saying that McCarthy is great, but he's bluffing in a high stakes game with a weak hand, and anyone who replaces him would just get the same weak hand.

He belongs to them anyway. He agreed to the CR.

Nothing is happening between now and 45 days from now. The Dems will get what they want or will allow the government to shut down. McCarthy will give it to them.

Good. The party needs division if the choice is holding onto the last threads of conservative ideology or being the submissive lesser half allowing the leftist agenda and big bloated government like the vast majority of the GOP has done.

McCarthy is not a conservative leader, thus not a great fit to lead the GOP.

Gaetz and others called McCarthy and the rest of the GOP out on this fact, yet was willing to support McCarthy as leader if McCarthy agreed to certain aspects (all of which should have been givens for any real conservative).

Gaetz is the only one here willing to follow through with the original agreement in advocating for a conservative agenda. He did not sign up for making the large concessions that McCarthy wants to make otherwise he would never have agreed to support McCarthy in the first place.

Theres a difference between having a seat at the table and having a leash around your neck. He's already the former, but Gaetz is moving him towards the latter.

Gaetz is Loomer level MAGA. He is basically MAGA's AOC.

MAGA on F16 has already been all in on Gaetz's little tirade.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Ted Cruz recorded his podcast in the middle of all this.

Basically said if there was not a shutdown McCarthy would be out as speaker, or at least a vote would be held.

Your premise fails because it assumes McCarthy is advocating a conservative agenda.

If Ds side with Gaetz, then they are giving power to the conservative minority of the GOP with balls. That helps the Ds in the short term with chaos, but hurts them in the long run.

If the Ds side with McCarthy, then you have your answer as to what side McCarthy helps more.

McCarthy tried to pass a bill that was much more conservative than what he passed Saturday. Gaetz tanked it. Who is helping the left again?

Gaetz is helping the left because he doesn't go along with the party? Why do we need individual representatives AT ALL if you don't allow them to vote against the party? We should just have the speaker propose laws, and the opposing party gets to decide whether their one guy agrees or not.

If you think he's being genuine here and actually cares about conservatism, then he and the others who voted down Friday's option are guilty of letting perfect be the enemy of good and ended up causing a better deal for the left and taking the senate off the hook for a shutdown.

If you think he's just being an attention ***** (my opinion), then all of this is exactly what he wants. Either way, the left is better off because of his actions.

The republicans barely have control of the house and don't have the senate or the executive branch. McCarthy understands the need to work within that reality and take the wins you can get. Gaetz just wants to be in the news.

Gaetz is a moron. He's not trying to effect change in our country. He's being a useful idiot that the left will support. I was a fan of his in the past, but he doesn't have a plan other than to be a meme at this point.
