Solar is working right now. Projecting 13.8 GW of solar today.
If we had no solar, our grid would be totally FUBAR during daytime.

So again,

Your argument is that If we spent the money that we have on wind or solar on natural gas instead, we would still be having these issues?

It's not a hard question.

they did spend $ on new nat gas gen.
we have 53,446 MW of nat gas generation, and 69 GW of max capacity---peakers?

Why u attacking me?

I had nothing to do with this grid, nothing.

If we didn't have solar, the grid would be far worse, the 13 GW is actually saving it. When solar comes off and there is no wind is when we have problems, but most of the time, wind ramps back up in the evening.

Texas shutdown coal due to cheap NG, not because of Obama.

We need more energy generation...period.

We need more infrastructure to support growth.

We also need to figure out how not to pay bitcoin miners money. We paid 31.7 million last month NOT to mine during the heatwave. Agree. We need more generation. We have invested enough in non-reliable solar and wind....time to focus on and invest in reliable sources....

It is a real talent to be wrong 100% of the time, but you definitely have it down to an artform.

The other national grids have the same set of federal regulations but aren't having these problems.

This is unique to the Texas grid entirely due to the conservative led government in Austin. They flat out failed.

Conservatives can't even run a driver's license office. They've been closed for days

And they are having a cooler than average summer - thanks to the high pressure that's been parked over Texas for 2 months. It's like having to jump 6 inches when the guy next to you has to jump 3 feet.

Nuclear is the only real solution. If we added 2 reactors at the STP and 2 at Comanche Peak, we'd been in good shape for a while.

We need motors that MAKE the turbines turn all the time!!! That way we never run out of power.

Have you ever heard of the Duck Curve? Solar works best at times when it is needed less. The early evening is when power is needed, but solar generation has fallen off.

You mean we shouldn't reward service providers who keep the energy generation demand high enough that generators don't shut down/start up and instead instantly put energy back into the grid?

That is true in CAISO but not in ERCOT.

In California load drops in the afternoon hours when the weather is nice. In Texas the afternoon hours are where you see extremely high demand.

In ERCOT, solar works very well leading up to and during peak load (~5pm) but then it rapidly falls off when it is still needed in the evening hours.

It would be a totally crazy idea if we tried to design houses that were not as dependent on A/C. We have the means of powering every Texans home (especially if we remove all illegals), but I will never trust the government to provide.

Thats complicated. Just put a pot of water on to boil on your electric stove. Use steam to turn your own small turbine generator then use that power to heat more water. The growth can then be exponential.

of course, that is why wind typically picks up the load at that time, but not in Auggy or Sept as wind dies during that time period.

Obviously, Ercot never really thought it through when they built all those wind farms in W. TX, where wind only blows at night, and not much during 5-7PM period.

Blows more down the coast near Corpus with sea breeze.

Again, if they had a meteorologist, they could have figured that out, and concentrated all the wind gen down the coast, which they are now doing.

Heh? You mean like by using the power to build Ford Motor Company cars?

Substantially all mercury generated is captured before it is emitted. You could put your mouth over the smokestack at a coal plant and breathe the air in without issue.

Or they could invest in complex natural gas plants, and double the capacity that wind and solar have for every single dollar spent.
