I'm glad he announced on Twitter with Elon. The MSM and Trump of course are all saying it was a fail. But this is the way forward. We don't need to even involve the MSM anymore. Marginalizing them might be the only way they ever change.

Feb 2025, OP then posts regret for 2024 vote. Says he had been convinced that GOP nom was literally Hitler but is amazed how the country is only getting worse.

Announcing your candidacy on Twitter Spaces is akin to announcing your candidacy on AM radio. This was not the best decision.

I am leaning DeSantis, but this exact type of tongue-in-cheek cleverness was used by Trump in the past and OP was outraged and suggested he just lies non-stop.

Leaves in the wind. It is different now.

No, Trump's comical boasting has always been viewed as just that - exaggerations meant to draw a chuckle. He's a salesman, everyone gets that and just rolls their eyes at that stuff.

The Trump lies that people get their feathers ruffled over are just that - lies. Like saying Cuomo did a better job during covid than Desantis.

There's a difference but you're conflating the two.

He will get flack for the tech glitch but for anyone that listened it was tremendous policy discussion. He has succeeded in making the story itself bigger, it's definitely got a lot of buzz either way and it is making people pay attention to him and making it hard to ignore him. He's going to be going on shows everywhere now as well.

If he did a traditional launch very few people would have tuned in because they would assume it was another stump speech in front of a crowd somewhere and they would just see the clip of him saying "I'm announcing I am running for President!" and maybe a line or two. This shifted that narrative, we will see how it works.

I don't know about that...Twitter is at the moment the most prominent space associated with true freedom of speech. He could have had a public event where he got in front of a podium and said all the same stuff in front of a bunch of media folks with cameras. Or he could release the video on twitter and they're all just gonna show it anyway. Doesn't seem to be much different to me, except that its on his terms and the video gets distributed en masse first by regular folks on twitter before the media gets a hold on it and can form their twisted commentaries.

You posited that Desantis supporters are ok with Desantis exaggerations/jokes but get riled up when Trump does the same thing.

I countered by explaining that (most) people don't get upset at Trump's exaggerations/jokes but rather his actual lies.

There's a difference between the exaggerations and the lies - one that people get upset about, one that they don't.

Now you're pivoting and insinuating I'm claiming Desantis never lies. I think you misunderstand my response.

And Desantis is human like the rest of us. I'm sure he's told a lie just like the rest of us.

This is the point of your response that you have zero way to prove. Hence my response suggesting I don't think it is fair to say one lies more than the other or that one politician's lie is worse than others.

Plus if you take Georgia Ag as the example I was responding to, it isn't the lies that make him support one over the other, because he supported and voted for Biden who is arguably more of a liar than Trump and has been his entire career.

Hence I don't think it is fair for GeorgiaAg and his ilk to suggest Trump's lies are why he voted for biden and now supports DeSantis. That is ridiculous and not congruent in any shape or form.

Gotcha. I didn't interpret your initial comment as a statement that both Desantis and Trump lie so its disingenuous for Desantis fans to applaud one while getting angry at the other.

I took it to mean that Desantis fans will cheer on a Desantis joke but get mad if Trump makes the exact same joke. To that point, I disagree and was pointing out that Desantis fans get mad at the Trump lies, not the Trump jokes. I'm not attempting to argue that Desantis has never lied or lies less than Trump...that topic deserves a whole other thread on its own, lol.

Yep...the CNN and MSNBC talking heads are going to relentlessly attack and lie and paint him as a right wing extremist who wants to drive out all of the gays and blacks. I think OP, and tons of other CM's that say they are going to support Desantis, end up sitting out if Biden is the guy, or voting Dem if someone like Gavin Newsome enters the race.
