"Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on May 5, commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, A larger French force ultimately defeated the Mexican army at a Second Battle of Puebla and occupied Mexico City."

So to be fair, Mexico won the first battle, but lost the war... So let's celebrate..

I have celebrated it many times as I grew up in San Antonio with a lot of Mexican American friends.

The festivals in downtown San Antonio are like no other. So much fun and is great to see the culture and heritage expressed through their music, dancing and traditional Mexican foods.

Cultural appreciation and nostalgia are my reasons.

A lot of non Irish Catholics celebrate St. Patrick's feast day. I don't know anyone who goes out of their way to celebrate Cinco de mayo. I don't even know what Cinco de mayo is other than May 5th, and a Mexican celebration.
