So by extension ur cool with a white black panther, white fictional MLK reimagining, white Jackie Robinson reimagining etc....as long as they use talented actors.

Have no problem with a White Black Panther is the story is good.

After seeing Hamilton I don't really have an issue with the casting if the story is good.

But no one can tell me why Halle Bailey shouldn't be Ariel on this board.

Are mermaids white?

Okay.

Why does no one care the story is not Hans Christian Anderson?

It's just so not what his story is.

So, why can't someone who can sing like Halle Bailey not be Ariel? Is it really important the mermaid is white?

Those are all poor examples because their blackness is part of their identity and central part of their story. The movie would be fundamentally incorrect if you changed that. The same can't be said for a fish person.

There's three new songs and one new reprise in the remake (written by Lin-Manuel Miranda), and they got rid of the songs Daughters of Triton and Les Poissons.

They're at about $333M globally after 2 weeks. Plus whatever they're making on merchandising which I have no idea how to figure out.

So it's underperforming and they will be lucky to come out even. Got it.

Plus Disney doesn't get all the gross. Roughly half, from what I understand. The remainder goes to theater owners, etc.

ETA: Needs to gross $800 million just to break even. So it will probably lose money but I don't think Disney cares about that anymore. LOL

'The Little Mermaid' Declared "A Massive Flop For Disney"
Quote:

The Little Mermaid dropped 58% domestically and is still making next to nothing internationally. And let's just say that film is essentially guaranteed to not only flop, but also to be a massive flop for Disney and could ultimately be one of the worst performing movies in their entire history.
Quote:

According to The-Numbers, The Little Mermaid's box office gross fell 58% in its second weekend at domestic theaters to just $40.6 million. It grossed $95.5 million in its 3-day opening weekend during Memorial Day Weekend. The total domestic box office now sits at $186.2 million.

The Little Mermaid did add to its international total with Deadline reporting it brought in $42.3 million in its second weekend. The film only brought in $68.3 million in its opening weekend internationally. The total international box office sits at $140.5 million.

The film's global gross sits at $326.7 million. It reportedly had a production budget of $250 million. Meaning the film is still in the red and as OMB Reviews notes it does not look like it will be turning black any time soon.

Disney's Woke 'The Little Mermaid' Bombs Around the World
Quote:

Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is bombing in overseas markets as foreign audiences reject the studio's woke, multi-racial retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale.
Quote:

For its first weekend, The Little Mermaid managed to muster just $68.3 million overseas, far below expectations. Disney tentpole releases are usually expected to gross more overseas than domestically. But so far, the reverse has been true for The Little Mermaid.
Quote:

The poor foreign returns could imperil The Little Mermaid's chances of breaking even at the box office. The movie is believed to have cost $250 million to make and would need to gross well north of $500 million globally to break even probably closer to $800 million or $900 million when considering promotional costs.
