Because they netflixed the main character of the original story and the live actions typically suck when they don't stick to the script. Parents like me aren't going to support Disney but even my non-political friends have no intention of paying money so their kids can watch a politically correct white washing of the original look and feel of a movie.

People will see it because of the feels and I'd bet it pays out but certainly not some kind of big hit from a profit standpoint.

The prime for Disney live-action remakes was 2016-2019. Aladdin and others did very well - and everyone went to see the Lion King because the og was probably the best animated film ever made, and the re-make made bank for it despite bad overall reviews. I think the days of making easy cash off of millennial nostalgia have passed. Race swapping characters wasn't rampant in past remakes either, and it certainly aint gonna help.

Remakes made since then have been colossal money-burning flops - Mulan in 2020 (it didnt have a traditional theatrical release though so who knows)...and Pinocchio (also the worst rated live action disney remake)

The good news is you'll be able to watch it on your Disney+ subscription.

How did the Milan remake do in China? China is all most movie makers care about anymore.

The original movie was adorable. I'm sure there will be parts of this that are fine but again all these remakes. Although the live version of beauty and the beast was pretty good. The lion king one was not. The original is far superior.

The live action remake had mystical overtones and not-humanly-possible stunts, similar to other period piece kung fu movies from China. It was also PG-13 and released directly to Disney+. You're right. There really can't be a comparison.

I'm not surprised Pinocchio didn't do well. The movie hasn't aged as well as many (most?) of the other classics.

Little Mermaid is from the Disney Renaissance. It, along with Beauty & The Beast probably saved them from bankruptcy when they were released.
