DNA is a match, evil monster needs to be put down.

One other new thing was that they found DNA on one of the victim's nightgown. If that is matched to BK, he's toast.

And this has not made the media headlines yet. Where did this come from?

I might have misheard. The topic was the DNA on the knife sheath and that was found under Maddie's body and "nightclothes" meaning the bed comforter, I think. It was awkwardly worded from a motion filed the other day, conflating the DNA "location" as found there but they reall only meant on the sheath that was found there, under the comforter and her body.

Sorry, my bad.

Thank you for the clarification. That's big news if it is in other locations.

One thing I can say it news to me is the confirmation that investigators were in fact using a DNA public database to find people who were related to the DNA on the sheath and they found over a hundred potential matches as they honed in on BK. Prosecution is claiming there are no records pertaining to that search however as they were taking screen shots. And when I say "they" I mean the FBI.

Just what we needed more "no records" responses from the FBI.

If you want to know more, Peter breaks it down.

My thoughts, he had a thing for Maddie. The other 3 were unexpected and he had to cover his tracks.

Regarding the sheath, I think he had it attached to him, and it got knocked off in a struggle.

Ka-Bar sheaths are attached by belt through leather loop. There's no pulling it off without breaking something.

Something has always struck me as being fishy about that part of the prosecution's story.

He probably did NOT have it looped through the belt, maybe tucked in the waistband or shoved in his pocket, then pulled it out, holding sheath in off hand, pulled knife with primary hand, dropped, or lost sheath.

Yeah, just because it is designed to be worn on a belt doesn't mean he wore it on a belt.

We have no idea what kind of clothes or hazmat type suit he was wearing othe than it was dark in color. He may not have worn a belt at all.

Or he unfastened his belt.

No signs of a sexual assault that I'm aware of, if that is what you are suggesting. Because DNA such as that would have "come out" so to speak.

On the K Bar sheath topic. It would seem there are hundreds of cheap knock offs made of this knife and sheath. Wouldn't be surprising that his wasn't made completely true to the Marine model.

I think the death penalty is a big hinderance to a plea. Some of the families are not going to support taking it off the table.

Judge Judge issued his gag order revision on Friday. Doesn't seem like much changed.

I have a sneaky feeling the judge is going to bar cameras for the trial.

Xana's mom has said she doesn't support it. Kaylee's family strongly support.

When is the deadline to file that they are pursuing that angle?

TBH, I lost track when the hold happened. It was in late July originally.

This is a case that is very hard to follow because of the gag order.

I don't see how someone who lost a child to a murderer, someone who stole everything from their child and from their family, could be opposed to the death penalty. I suppose some of us are just wired differently. I'd volunteer to carry it out, though I'd stick the needle in both eyes prior to half-ass looking for a vein, being sure to take my time.

Some people can't justify taking a life for any reason. I doubt they'd blink an eye if he's guilty and dies, but it won't be on their conscience at all.

To folks like that, wanting him dead drops them to the level of killing. Just another connection to him. They could kill him 1,000 times and their daughter will still be gone.

I don't have much confidence in a judge who didn't take the time to learn how to pronounce the victim names prior to a hearing.

Can't disagree with that, considering it is the biggest case to hit that jurisdiction in decades.

I really hope we can see a live stream of the trial. (And I am still alive when it happens because I think it gets continued for a another year or so.)

Busy few days:

- Defense requested discovery information, including info on three unknown male DNA samples found during investigation. One of the samples was found on a discarded glove outside the home. Also requesting FBI records from their genealogical search. FBI typically does not keep the genealogical tree developed from the DNA. This is crucial IMO because keeping and reviewing this data (and dates of research) can go to them working forwards instead of backwards. They don't want anyone seeing their work. Why not? Can the government show they didn't just pick Kohberger and then fake the DNA? How do we know they did the genealogical tree at all?

- The state filed for the death penalty today.

What changes now?
I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

I think the defense is grasping at straws. There may be other DNA, but unless that glove was dripping in blood, good luck connecting it to the crime scene instead one of the tons of random students walking around that night or coming to the scene the next morning.
