If personality decides who you vote for, you're part of the problem.
Personality largely decides elections, because it sways the middle 5-10%. That's politics. Those "part of the problem" people aren't going away, so you'd better learn how to appeal to them if you want to win.
Reagan was more likeable than Carter and Mondale.
Bush was more likeable than Dukakis... and honestly, Reagan was so beloved Bush got that spillover effect.
Clinton was more likeable than Bush and Dole. And Perot.
Bush was more likeable than Gore and Kerry.
Obama was more likeable than McCain and Romney.
Trump was more likeable than Hillary. Seriously, Hillary is probably the one candidate the Dems could have run in '16 that would have lost. And they ran her.
Biden was more likeable than Trump.
