More on the Abrams decision. OPTIONS

"The U.S. will likely remove classified electronics from the Abrams before shipping them to Ukraine, similar to what it did with a Stinger missile part last year. Yet Lockwood noted that even a somewhat stripped-down Abrams, if captured by Russian forces, could help Moscow look for vulnerabilities or reverse-engineer NATO technology. "I suspect there are a lot of people in the Army who are not happy about this whatsoever," he said."

Dear Putin spokes person:

Direct involvement would be NATO forces wiping the floor with that pathetic excuse for an army.

Cry more.

Turns out having nuclear weapons actually makes war more likely and of longer intensity.

if the Russians had no nuclear weapons, NATO would liberate Ukraine in about 6 days.

No US versions. I'd agree China/Russia have probably examined export versions without DU armor and other advanced features.

The reverse. If Ukraine still had its ex-Soviet nukes, Putin would never have invaded.

Good lord. Soledar is completely destroyed. Look at the video at 5:06.

Also, lots of good strategy talk in this one IMO, in Rob's typical relaxed style.

The US has tons of F16s in storage that will probably never be used again besides for practice drones .. we should give 50-100 of them armed to the teeth to Ukraine .. better than letting them rot in storage

Somebody posted an article on this way back. Not just the US, apparently there are more operational (or close thereof) F16s around the world than any other platform. Maybe more importantly more F16 pilots worldwide as well that possibly could be used as volunteers. Maintenance parts are also readily available.

I would love to see them delivered for the long term but think other weapons would be more effective in the short; such as ATACAMS/GLSDBs/advanced drones both attack/ISR. When the putin bully is informed they are down to XX% of hardware armor/AC he will have but no choice to pull back and keep enough around to protect his scared little self.

Artillery on troops in the open

for those interested in the effectiveness of artillery/mortars on troops in the open when closest hits are 75-100M away click on link below. First half all ground burst munitions while second half all air burst which is rarely seen and they could sure use more of.

On computer you do not have to have reddit account.

Putin's invasion has both revitalized and expanded NATO. Germany in particular is rushing to catch up after decades of neglecting its armed forces. The law of unintended consequences is in full play.

More tanks from Poland. There're hundreds of T-72 derivatives left in Europe, and I still maintain that Abrams is better used backfilling them so countries will be more willing to promptly donate tanks Ukraine is already prepared to operate and sustain.

getting each one airworthy for battle would take time and a lot of money. If you going to do it right, send them the F16 that are still in service and send these mothball ones for spare parts.

F-16s are just as vulnerable to the very capable and very dense Russian air defenses surrounding and firing into Ukraine as are current UAF fighters. A more effective option is to give Ukraine more advanced western SAM systems, like Patriot, on a faster timeline. That would have the far more immediate benefit of both holding out Russian warplanes and intercepting the long-range TBMs and cruise missiles being lobbed at Ukraine from inside Russia.

F-16s?
or
SAMs?

It's used to lock down files. GPO's are how you distribute configurations to supported, domain bound devices. Gets around av. Shadow copy's are just storage maintained local backups. Prevents you from uusing previous version on a windows file server.

Simple fix, stop using private cloud file servers. Move to emc isilon or something similar, or use Azure Files/AWS FSx.

Isn't the Patriot still one of our main missile defense systems ? I don't see us giving up to many of those unless we have plenty to spare ? I have no idea on this ?

Soledar fell, Bakhmut soon to follow. Russians making small advances along the contact line, particularly in the south.

Ukraine is snatching up conscripts off the streets, presumably to form the bulk of a new offensive using all the new goodies they're getting.

There is an expectation of a large offensive from the Russians but it's anyone's guess as to where and when.

Oh gee I dunno, maybe the part about Ukraine snatching up conscripts off the streets?

This has been reported no where that I can find?

Also, has been no reports of Bakhmut falling soon even with the loss of Soledar.

But, you have seemed to be a closet Russian sympathizer since this kicked off.

There are indications of coming offensives by both sides. Suspicion is that Russia may try to spoil a Ukrainian one with an offensive of their own.
