so when a Uke D-9 dozer just moves in and covers up some of that trench- what do the Russians do?
Like all military barriers and obstacles, defensive lines serve primarily to provide a physical screen to make the likely axis of attack more predictable while attriting, delaying and channelizing the enemy when an attack does come. But any static defense can be overcome unless it has strong mobile reaction forces to back it up and quickly contain any penetrations. So far Russia has not demonstrated much competence when such quick thinking and agile response are required. Even if Russia can get its line set in time, Ukraine will be sure to use HIMARS to break up Russian response force concentrations before assaulting the defensive works.
