Some more on the S-300s from Slovakia. It was delivered days ago, but ethical reporting does exist and they withheld it until it was officially announced. It's also Slovakia's ENTIRE single S-300 battery. Incredible of them to give it.

AFAIK the Russians no longer use the Tochka-U and replaced it with the Iskander.

They do when they run out of Iskander's. This post with embedded video of Tochkas moving from Russian to Ukraine is a month old.

The Russian military forces' Tochka-U ( NATO reporting name is SS-21 Scarab-B) tactical ballistic missiles are operational again, according to open-source-intelligence analysts who scrutinize photos and videos on social media.

Belarus-based analyst released Wednesday video footage reportedly showing a column of Russian military vehicles with "V" marks, which was moving from Rechitsa towards Gomel along the M10 highway.

"There were at least 8 Tochka-U, several BTR-82a, about 9 KamAZ trucks, some of which are carrying Tochka-U missiles, communication vehicle and a crane," the MotolkoHelp said in a Twitter post.

The S-300 was designed in the 60s so they are likely getting rid of it to get the S400 (doubtful since Russia designed that one) or the Patriot (which needs a big upgrade). Seems a lot of countries are giving Ukraine what needed to be disbanded 20 years ago to get well needed upgrades.

A lot of the high flying Russian bombers were built or designed in the 60s or 70s, so it's not like they're trying to shoot down B-2 bombers.

100% in favor of this. Give them and give them some of our legacy stuff or modern stuff (like M1A1's I think we have 3000 in boneyards, hell set up 1k for a lend lease program).

I'm sure it's been covered a bunch in this amazing thread…

But once again, let's get some Uke pilots trained up on the A10s we're about to mothball. Not sure how many weeks or even possible, but maybe some more knowledgeable can way in.

Incredible "tank busting" capabilities and air cover for ground advancements.

I don't know what's actually happening on the ground, but it's funny how often the Russia defenders and Russia itself gear up to defend the circumstances around the latest batch of dead civilians and then it turns out the Russians already bragged about it a few hours before.

Either Ukraine is keeping civilians at military targets (I'm not ruling this out at all) or the Russians are as incompetent at external propaganda as they are at war.

Of course, the easy way to cut through all the noise is to remember that every story is about how many Ukrainians died on Ukrainian soil during Russia's invasion. The Russians are bad guys, we're just trying to figure out exactly how bad they are and whether Ukraine is also doing some pretty evil stuff in their quest for national survival.

You haven't been paying attention if you think Ukraine is doing this to their own citizens.

Putin and Russia have a very long history of doing exactly what they're doing to innocents in Ukraine.

Syria is a prime recent example.

Here is what is happening over and over again on the ground. WARNING Horrific content.

Great survivability but I'm not sure that they'd be great in that air threat enviornment. F-16s would be easier and better imo but the problem is then you're not just training pilots but ground crews, repair techs, getting tool sets, supplies and all kinds of other stuff. I'm not saying we shouldn't/couldn't but the threat environment is incredibly complex and I'm of the opinion that you could do a lot more without transferring NATO air equipment rather than ground equipment in this space. I'd rather send drones but again our stand off tech is REALLY expensive and it's not best bang for buck right now when they need a lot of other things first.

Also, despite being a complex system, it requires no training since the Ukes are familiar with it.
Everything else provided since the war is short range. Which allows the RuAf to attack from stand off distance.

No longer the case, and it is a system very much respected by the RuAF since they use it.
