Have we reached a point where the Ukes are growing stronger as the Russians are getting weaker? I have suspected for a few days now that Russia lost it's peak power already. At least with the forces committed. Still not seeing large troop movements in Russia. Only old equipment being trickled in. If that is not true please someone let me know.

If we take the above presumption, I actually wonder if a true siege of Kiev would actually hurt the Russians more than the Ukes will at this point. I know it is an extremely bold thought, but from my macro view with the info I currently have, I don't think the Russians have the capacity to even take Kiev. Wreck it, sure. But I believe Russia will wreck itself as well. I think the Ukes are holding a lot of cards close to their chest and if a true battle of Kiev starts, it will be all out. Judging from the fights in the south and the troop capacity we suspect is in the north....I just don't see it happening as I sit here now. A LOT of caveats in there of course but my kneejerk thoughts are exactly that.

From what I can tell, it still seems like Russia is not taking this seriously in terms of commitment as a nation and that absolutely blows my mind. I may be wrong in that assumption, but man, it sure doesn't seem like it. Or they just can't sustain a modern war at the pace they need to, which is even more damning somehow.

This war is wild from an objective and academic POV.

I think the issue is that Russian doctrine is not as concerned about how to efficiently and effectively fight a war as it is about throwing men and materials at it until they win or run out.

Their logistics are undersized, and much of their equipment seems to be geared towards projecting the idea of power, not actual power. Look at their vessels. They're typically heavily armed, but that leaves them with maintenance and integration issues that mean they're less effective and less reliable. They look dangerous, and kind of are, but in practice a less heavily armed ship probably performs better.

I don't understand this. Putin has to realized nato would demolish his entire army in a matter of days. Then all he has is nukes and that's not a winning proposition for anyone.

I doubt they run back to their lines where they would be imprisoned and possibly executed. They were either killed in the attack, surrendered, or hiding out somewhere in civilian clothes.

Russian ground troop morale and will to fight has got to be seriously degrading. The resistance has been steady, they are taking significant casualties, their logistical support has been poor and they are not going to get relieved from action any time in the near future.

One of the truisms of war like this, is you create far more fighters than you kill, as an attacking army. Even if the numbers are inflated, you still have five digit volunteers flooding in to stop this kind of madness. Not to mention strengthening the Ukes resolve (if that is at all possible at this point).

Still thinking that an all out assault on Kiev will break Russia before the Ukes. Urban fighting against an entrenched and motivated city of millions who HATE you? When they see what they are doing to their weak and vulnerable? Don't think Russia is going to have an easy time with that.

Even if they do nominally take Kiev and most of the land, I can't see the Ukes just accepting that at this point. Nor should they. Afghanistan was a nightmare for Russia and I don't think that would even come close if they tried to occupy Ukraine fully.

Putin is a ****ing idiot who has singlehandedly shifted the entire world on it's axis. Dude needs to die and quickly.

Here's a simple solution. Sell them to a private individual as parry of a training/red team fleet. That person then sells them to Ukraine because they suddenly have buyer's remorse. Ukraine picks them up. Easy peasy.

I agree with you this is horrid and one of several reasons we should be doing more.

As for an all out assault on Kyiv, they only need to get within 18 miles and rain death upon the city. I don't think putins original plan was to level the capitol but this picture is one of several in which they have already shown the capacity to do so. It also distances those pulling the trigger from seeing the death and destruction. 24/7 shelling will test even the strongest.

Prayers for Ukraine and the end of putin.
