I would generally agree, except I'd replace "communism" with "any extremist dictatorial form of government." Not sure I'd deem today's Russia as communist, especially since there are a lot of rich guys at the top backing the current dictator.

Fair point but Ukraine has essentially been free since 1991. To them Russia is still the system of the USSR with more consumer goods.

Excellent article by Rand Corporation. Even US military doctrine doesn't fully consider 'Will to Fight' ... obviously the Russians didn't.

Didn't see this posted and apologies if I missed it. Ukraine arms company offering rewards for Russian military equipment including to Russian soldiers that defect with equipment.

NPR on the drive into office this morning - Ukrainian nuclear scientist (sorry for generic title) said the power failure is an issue because it helps to cool the spent fuel and other radioactive materials and that if it isn't fixed that a meltdown similar to the first can and will happen. Said they have staff on hand that have been basically living, or imprisoned, at reactor for almost 2 weeks. Mentioned they had a crew to come onsite to attempt to restore electricity and Russian soldiers told them to leave and if they tried to come back they will be shot.

A few guided missiles or isolated SU34 sorties are not going to take out an airfield, that is a job for a heavy bomber, using dumb bombs. But RU does not control the air space and is afraid to lose the aircraft.

Russian military is proving to be 3rd rate, at best.

The Russians aren't going to want to sit in the dark and cold and also don't want a meltdown right next to their border. If they lose backup on-site power I'm sure they'll get grid power restored.

Just and observation on equipment maintenance and the different divisions.
We have seen plenty of failed and destroyed equipment but these videos are showing their condition prior to engagement.

The forces out of Belarus (V) appear to have better maintenance on their vehicles.

The video showing Russian eastern troops (Z) I assume are actually from Crimea and the vehicles seem to be in much worse shape.
My best guess is this is equipment left over from the 2014 engagement.

This is from a layman's casual observation though, someone with more knowledge please chime in if I have any of this obviously wrong.

Ukrainian medieval armorer contributes to war effort

Ukraine's blacksmiths are using their skills to contribute to its country's defense against invading Russian forces, including at least one medieval armor smith, according to VICE News.

The Art of STEEL, a Ukrainian workshop that produces medieval arms and armor, posted a photo of steel spikes it had made to defend checkpoints to its Facebook page.

"A little help in improving the defense of our city," reads the post from Mar. 1. "All forges in the city make barrier elements."

NATO is giving Ukraine most of the help it wants. The no fly zone and the Migs are the 2 biggest things we haven't given.

UN can't react because the Security Council is frozen by Russia and China. And NATO won't act without at least the fig leaf of UN sanctions.
