can someone clue me in on the strategic value of the chernobyl site?

or is it just a morale deal
Its is one of the fastest land routes to Kyiv for armor and mechanized formations.
Exactly. It's strategically relevant because of its location.

There are already too many "news" sources that are attempting to make it something about the nuclear tragedy.

Hopefully the Ukrainians send back "Send more body bags. But not for us."

If the coffin was damaged it would be, but these are people who can't read a map we're talking about.

Russian soldiers just wanted to catch some of those giant catfish from the cooling ponds they saw on "River Monsters".

In all seriousness, this is a big problem. Even with the sarcophogus covering much of the dangerous area, live munitions could really fling some heavy radiation back into the air.

Don't believe this is a tank. Looks like a Russian recovery vehicle.

Russia is playing for keeps right now. How much do you give them before Russia decides they just want it all again?

If they wanted it all he would have sent all his forces into Ukraine. Its pretty clear they are holding back rn.

The Russians can't effectively do a D-Day style of invasion.

I know Joe told Vlad which companies and infrastructure was off limits for cyber attacks.

Did Vlad return the favor?

This strikes me as an extraordinarily bad idea. It would be open season on US private enterprise for cyberattacks by Russian state agents and their proxies.

Your local bank, for example, may get looted in the crossfire of international war.

If no deal is made thousands more people will die and probably end up in the same situation at the end. It seems like everybody knows Russia won't try to hold the whole country. Make a deal and put permanent bases in the Baltics and Poland and save some innocent life

Thousands of more people, Ukrainians, will likely still die in the areas that Putin would retain. The FSB would see to that. I don't see how either party would come to an agreement.

35s do have really excellent ways to take and share data across multiple platforms.

They would be more of a bridge than actual ATC.

If we are doing anything more than defensive CAP over Poland I'd be surprised.

Right, that's the thought I was trying to draw out. I know that 35's have data link capabilities.

Not my world but I could see them pinging a F-16 with a target for SEAD or similar

But having them be actually in charge of airspace seems wasteful

I have no real knowledge, but I've been given to believe that we probably aren't putting SEAD assets into the area right now. The reason being is that the Russians would see it as a huge escalation.

The point being, if you're sending someone in to suppress air defenses, there's a reason. The reason being, they are being suppressed to allow a US air strike. That's a big step, and the Russians know it.

Or are we watching a pre-determined script of actions with parts of Ukraine military command defection or refusing to fight?

Because it would be. If missiles start coming off US or NATO missile rails and taking out Russian assets, Putin would view it as an act of war.

use of battlefield nukes to "escalate to deescalate"

that sounds charming!

That's been Soviet/Russian policy for 50+ years. It's largely one of the reasons why we never got into a direct war with them.
