This couldn't be more on topic, IMO.

…but why? The world is already on Ukraine's side, they don't need to bomb their own cities to make that happen.

After Russia lost sea superiority I think they want to use Snake Island to launch large missile systems from. Not a good plan without air superiority

No. They could have left already, before invasion. Putin either placed or influenced pro russian peeps in the donbass crimea areas since 2014. This is how they try to justify stealing land belonging to others down the road. Its what they are doing in Kherson and Mariupol right now.

Mission to the moon lift off fail. Wow that second one lifted that whole tank every bit of 2.5+ feet off the ground. Hope they had seat belts and their tanker helmets on.

It's interesting to read the Russian propaganda and then the source that they conveniently don't give a link to. They take a nugget of truth and twist it to suit themselves.

As long as Russia wants to keep feeding troops to an island with insufficient air cover, the Ukes need to keep killing them. Snake Island has become a living hell.

Russia's inability to gain total air superiority is the number one quantifiable reason IMO why they failed at the start and why they continue to fail. What a disaster for them. I love to see it! Disregard the garbage spewed by our board commies. This fight is still very much not decided.

we should have a discussion along the board on this topic: every day that passes I believe is a win for Ukraine.

every day the Russian economy will take more hits from the sanctions, every day more Ukes can be trained in Western equipment, and every day the Russian forces will take more casualties.

on the other hand, every day in a war of attrition means it could be possible the Ukes are relatively suffering a higher percentage of casualties.

it really all depends on if Ukraine is able to conscript/draft or obtain thousands more volunteers each week.

in my mind, this is now a battle of manpower-

as the increased western equipment evens out the actual ability of both forces to reach near stalemate.

Just FYI, May 9th commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. It was first inaugurated in the 15 republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender late in the evening on 8 May 1945.

This military expert is Mikhail Khodarenok, a former colonel of the Russian army. He published an article couple weeks before the invasion, that turned out to be a brilliantly accurate prediction of the difficulties the Russians would face - https://russiandefpolicy.com/2022/02/07/mass-fire-strike-on-ukraine/

Highly recommend reading it all. Some excerpts:

Quote:

Like a cherry on top different analysts point to the fact that no one in Ukraine will defend the "Kiev regime."

To assert that no one in Ukraine will defend the regime signifies practically a complete lack of knowledge about the military-political situation and moods of the broad masses in the neighboring state. And the degree of hatred (which, as is well-known, is the most effective fuel for armed conflict) in the neighboring republic toward Moscow is plainly underestimated. No one in Ukraine will meet the Russian army with bread, salt and flowers.
.
.
.

Now about "Russia's powerful fire strike," by which "practically all surveillance and communications systems, artillery and tank formations of the Ukrainian army" will supposedly be destroyed.

Only in this single expression it's apparent that only political workers could say such a thing. ...... Our arsenal is completely insufficient to wipe a state on the scale of France with a population of more than 40 million from the face of the earth. And Ukraine is characterized by exactly these parameters.

If the Ukrainian army represented fragments of the Soviet Army until 2014, then over the last seven years a qualitatively different army has been created in Ukraine, on a completely different ideological foundation and largely on NATO standards. And very modern arms and equipment are coming and continue to come to Ukraine from many countries of the North Atlantic alliance.

...in the event of a Russian invasion massive assistance to the Ukraine from the collective West with the most varied types of arms and military equipment and large volume supplies of all kinds of materiel. In this regard the West has already exhibited an unprecedented consolidated position, which, it seems, was not expected in Moscow.

One shouldn't doubt that some reincarnated lend-lease in the form and likeness of the Second World War from the USA and countries of the North Atlantic alliance will begin. Even the flow of volunteers from the West of which there could be very many can't be excluded.

Generally, there won't be any kind of Ukrainian blitzkrieg. Utterances by some experts of the type "The Russian Army will destroy the greater part of VSU sub-units11 in 30-40 minutes," "Russia is capable of destroying Ukraine in 10 minutes in a full-scale war," "Russia will destroy Ukraine in eight minutes" don't have a serious basis.

And finally, most important. Armed conflict with Ukraine now fundamentally doesn't meet Russia's national interests. Therefore it's best for some overexcited Russian experts to forget their hat-tossing fantasies. And, with the aim of preventing further reputational damage, never again to recall them.

Assuming one more location gets pushed east by UKR like what is happening at Kharkiv, we may see putin declare special operation is over and begin to act as if they have freed the east and will move to de-escalation talks demanding that everything they have taken is now back in russian control just like it was supposed to be.

Hopefully Zelensky and the rest of the world tell putin to go **** himself and that UKR forces will continue eastward until all russian forces have been removed from pre 2014 UKR territory, ALL kidnapped citizens are returned, and a mechanism for reparations is established.

Discussions for reductions in sanctions can begin shortly after that to include nuke by back and other various security agreements (not that they ever follow them anyway)

Good and bad thing is they probably will not listen to him. They still don't fully comprehend that their masses of human waves would have accomplished little in ww2 if they did not have the logistical and industrial input from allies like they did then. Who will give them that materiel support and the expertise of keeping logistics lined out?
