I think the real weak link in American defense is the American people. A people that are ignoring the reality and cost of a peer v. peer war and the politicians don't want to lose votes/support by telling American civilians that when we are at war....it's their war too!

All of Ukraine is sacrificing daily. When was the last time Americans sacrificed other than military members and their families and friends?

America could not deal with the losses of another D-Day or Hurtgen Forest or Tarawa. But if we fight a peer or even near peer war, those things will likely happen.

Americans don't want to be at war. Neither do Ukrainians.

It's just the Ukrainians only have two choices. War or Surrender.

If the US were being invaded by another country, that would be a whole different story. The "Wolverines" call-to-duty would emerge.

North Korea upping its ballistic missile deliveries to Russia.

Is Russia really that insane? They seem to be inviting NATO air forces to make retaliatory strikes in Russia.

They're probing to see how far they can go, and slowly creating acclimation/habituation/acceptance by euros. Because they know that up to a mass casualty event, nobody will engage out of fear of "escalation". They also know that the US won't get involved regardless of what they do. So, for them, the risk is exceedingly low and very much worth it.

I am kind of thinking Putin is still reaching for a way to motivate his population to embrace full mobilization. He hasn't goaded the Ukrainians into attacking civilian targets yet, so maybe he is hoping to incite some limited reaction from NATO? Seems like it would be easier to just do a false flag and attack his own people like he has before.

The transfer is scheduled to begin immediately after the expiry of the statutory deadline for the 15-day review of communications by Congress. The State Department submitted the relevant documents to the legislators on August 3, 2026.

In general, the Congress reported on the transfer to Ukraine:

12 M270 MLRS launchers;
70 M39 ATACMS ballistic missiles;
2524 unguided 227 mm M26 rockets with DPICM cluster warheads;
47,000 M509A1 203 mm caliber cluster artillery shells for 2S7 "Pion" and M110 self-propelled guns.

According to the report, the transfer will be carried out through Turkish, Bulgarian and American defense and logistics companies-special exporters.

The State Department has told Congress that it is ready to allow the transfer because it is in line with U.S. security assistance goals.

The documents state that Turkey seeks to reduce stocks of obsolete weapons in order to focus financial resources on modernizing and maintaining existing systems. Ukraine, in turn, wants to purchase these weapons to strengthen the offensive and defensive capabilities of fire support during the counteraction of the Russian invasion.
