Was watching on a different feed and unless one rocket shut down at the very last second, it landed on two Raptors.

The way those engines gimbal to keep it stable seems so unstable.

Think that was more gimbling to translate than stabalize, it looks like they missed the mark by a few feet, possible an issue with not arresting as much cross range as they expected too.

Except for the fire afterwards, which I'm not sure wasn't intentional, these engines and the system I think prove they weren't kidding about the better grasp on the situation ...

What I really wish Elon would do (he won't), is basically tweet:

"Hey Jeff, seeing as you're so confident you're better than us, and we both have stupid amounts of money, how about a little race to the moon? First one there gets NASA's contract! Loser has to kick in an extra million if the winner lands by 2024."

I watched it land, and the whole time I was expecting an explosion. When it didn't, I kinda sat there with a "Huh, they actually did it" kinda look on my face. I'm not really surprised per se, I knew they would eventually, I just didn't think SN15 would be the one. Kinda figured it'd be 16 or 17. I think they'll stand down for a week to do any inspections they want, move 15 around or whatever, which will give them more time to work uninterrupted on the Orbital Launch Pad and supporting structures, because those are now the pacing items. You can't test SH, and you can't go orbital until you get all of that infrastructure done.

I was wondering how they expect to use starship as a lunar lander along with SLS. And I found this:

That sounds asinine. So they are going to use a 100% reusable rocket to get a huge lander in lunar orbit. Then spend $2B to fly a small Orion to meet up with the huge lander. Transfer people, and then land?

It would be hilarious if Musk personally welcomes the Orion astronauts as they ferry across to Starship (after having been on the moon for a year or so).

I think Musk will be part of the first group of people who go to Mars and I'd be surprised if he ever came back.

I had a good feeling about SN15 for whatever reason, so I wasn't so surprised that it landed. I think the big thing here is they can evaluate the three raptors more closely since they didn't explode this time.

Regarding Bezos, he's got to have the biggest case of professional jealousy of all time. That dork tweeted out about how the New Shepherd was the first booster landing like it was some big accomplishment. Since then, it seems like BO has done absolutely zero in terms of advancement.

And yeah, I hear all the time "Blue Origin does stuff behind closed doors, they're making lots of progress, etc." but we simply haven't seen anything except schedule delays.

When Blue Origin landed New Shepard that was a huge accomplishment and certainly nothing to be ashamed of. At that time neither company had put an object into orbit. Bezos and Elon do have (or have had) something of an ongoing professional pissing match, but Bezos' team certainly beat SpaceX in that regard.

Eventually the SpaceX folks surpassed him though and since then, they haven't looked back.
