I went to SPI to watch it. I was just barely able to see the booster light up before it went down behind people in front of me. But a while after that I heard two booms about a second apart, which I expected, thinking they were sonic booms of the booster coming down. But then around a minute later I heard two more booms that sounded identical to the first two. What would that be?
I don't think I heard the explosion because it sounded identical to the first pair of booms, which would have been sonic booms.
Was anyone there who heard the same thing?
In Port Isabel we heard the sonic booms and the larger explosion.
We were able to see the booster maneuvering for what seemed like forever above us thanks to the thrusters operating. I bet it was just the difference in having the sun to our backs.
lol, I like to pull up to my friends house with like 10 minutes to go before launch but yesterday the street closest to his house was one way traffic due to people parking on both sides. The minutes ticked by as we had to get out of the way of 3 cars coming against us as we drove in.
We still made it with a solid 5 minutes to spare. I was surprised at the amount of traffic still going over the bridge to SPI that late before launch. But I guess that's RGV time. We left at around 7pm and there was still a steady stream of bumper to bumper cars coming off the bridge.
The afternoon launch was way more of a party atmosphere, super fun but next time hopefully we get to see a live catch.
The dew point should be dry again for good viewing if the next one is in January or February.
