Don't really feel comfortable doing that - not that many profiles with that name and don't see any tie to him in that area but...if so he's probably as crazy as Foster.

If that name is right on that post...I may have just found the guys profile....and yikes

Dude looks insane himself and has multiple guns in his profile picture (no idea if I have the right guy...but could make sense).
As in the driver's profile?

Yeah...if it's the right guy.

Yea it wasn't hard to find. It was the second one with that name that popped up. He definitely seems a little out there but I can't tell from any of his posts what his location is.

Second one down is from south Carolina. That guy does seem crazy but certainly not the driver. The only one matching that name in Austin seems like a pretty normal dude.

Thanks, I obviously missed the location. He had the military background and multiple pictures but that very well probably isn't him.

This story just keeps getting sadder. No one should have died over a protest. Dude should not have brought his AK47 to the protest to look tough. These protests are a recipe for tragic disasters like this.

Video out tonight and floating around on the twitter machine shows Foster actually pointed the AK into an open driver's side window prior to getting vented.

Yeah, driver is not going to face charges. Idiot protester points an AK clone in his face and he calmly dispatches the guy with three rounds to the gut without getting shot back.

Guy was an idiot. It was not a tragic disaster.

I don't know if you're replying to the tweet out me or both but I totally agree with you. I just haven't seen this video posted here, so I wanted to share.

That video was completely terrible. But it really looks like his gun is pointed down. At least, maybe not pointed directly up to the car window?

Whether his gun is pointed up, down or sideways, if a man with a gun runs up to your window in this situation it seems more than reasonable to fear for your life. What if the driver waited 5 seconds and Garrett decided to raise the gun and unload it on him? The driver very well may have barely escaped with his life.

If you think these things are tragic, then you need to speak up against these types of protests/riots. It's inevitable that things like this will continue to occur if mass groups of people-some of whom are armed-are allowed to block traffic in the middle of the night and harass any person who happens to drive down the wrong street. So, if you want less death, start with the "protesters".
Agree 1000%. Allowing these people to take over the streets is going to continue to result in dangerous confrontation. Anyone in a car in these areas is at risk of finding themselves in a "wrong place, wrong time" situation that threatens their life. City leadership and these PD's need to find their balls and stop the street protests.

Mayor Adler is partly responsible for this incident imo

Hmm. Well, I think in this situation it matters. I think it provides an argument. I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but probably not the brightest move to just be carrying around a gun for no good reason.

21 feet is a direct threat with a knife. How about an AK?

The driver needs to really lean on "I feared for my life and shot to eliminate the threat".

Maybe, next time don't bring a rifle to a "mostly peaceful" protest.

FIFY

By allowing "protesters" to take over the streets, blocking traffic, and acting like irresponsible children, and not maintaining order, the mayor and local government is the root cause of this death.

This is why open carry is stupid especially with rifles and weapons that can't be holstered.

If someone comes up to me and we are having an intense discussion and they are concealed carrying I don't feel threatened unless they pull.

Same situation only they are open carrying with an ak47 style rifle that is considered "holstered" because it is carried on a shoulder strap, but they have their hands on it. Whether it is pointed down or not, their hands on the gun reasonably make me fear for my life.

Even more so if they are part of a mob that is hitting my vehicle.

statistically someone with a knife can close the distance to you and stab you before you can draw and get off a shot at closer than 21 feet.

I'd go as far as to say that the protestors are the ones who got him killed. Mobbing a car like that turns that into a deadly serious situation. Then the dude open carrying is the BIGGEST threat.

Uh all basic LE threat assessment FP info. At 21 feet a knife wielding assailant can generally make it to you before you can draw and fire. It happens QUICK
Was genuinely curious, wasn't trying to dismiss his info or anything.

You think so? I have pretty much no firearms training aside from shooting back on the ranch and dove hunting, so I have no clue what proper firearm handling looks like.

Agreed, open carry is a downright asinine idea. Absolutely no need to be carrying around a weapon like that.

like thirdcoast said. its the LE standard and what they teach you in any firearms training. it seems silly but they do exercises with you to prove that its true.

I have also heard 10 yards which is 30 feet.

and if you think about it 10 yards is very easy to traverse.

Twenty one feet is nothing. Get someone to time you. Go from standing still to moving 21 feet. It's so much quicker than you think even if you aren't in shape or you don't have adrenaline flowing. If the perp is on something or just have his adrenaline up you would be shocked how quick they are on you.

I have never had anyone come at me with a knife but fists and chairs occasionally.
