You are right about that. My response about people down the line from Young was made not even considering he is the leader who has set the tone and rules with unequal treatment depending on your politics. I was asking others to make up for his failure not even considering him a thoughtful party in the situation.

I sometimes walk around campus at night just to get out of the house and get some exercise. Last time I walked past Sully it was being guarded by a cop, but the sidewalk had "n****r killer" chalked on it. Cop didn't seem to care that it was there.

If you wanted to really anger or be 'controversial', you'd write 'Statue Lives Matter'. That may be a little much though. I can only imagine how offended they'd become from that. I think it would be funny to watch them overreact, but it wouldn't actually help anything.

"Sully was a black ally" would be more pertinent, thought-provoking, and less offensive.

There really isn't much question that in his public life after the war he was a noteable ally for black people. Obviously that looks different in his day, but it's true nevertheless.

Would be much, much more effective to organize a pro-Sully protest on a separate day so that you can better control the dialogue and narrative.

Uniformed police are the ones who would be posted at Sully. The Texas Rangers are an elite investigative unit, not uniformed police.
