Best course of action here, imo, is to leave the protestors alone. They seek attention and confrontation, do not give them either

This is a good opportunity for Infinite Tucker and company to demand the racist note writer be brought to justice.

If no one shows up to stand in front of Sully, then they will pull it down.

The problem with this is that our President has shown a greater willingness to virtue signal at phony notes under windshields than find out who damaged actual university property. Or deal with actual racial slurs. I will believe he is willing to actually punish someone damaging Sully when I see it. Color me very skeptical right now.

I would be shocked if any TAMU athletes participate in defacing or pulling down the statue. They know there will be severe consequences.

All of those people would consider it a badge of honor to take one for the cause if it meant destroying Sully.

And once it is down, it will not go back up, which is what Young is counting on.

When are y'all going to comprehend the fact that the institutions of this country no longer serve you. Those that tear down the statue of Lawrence Sullivan Ross will not be charged with a crime, they will not lose their scholarships and his statue will never be raised again.

I doubt it.

There is The possibility A bunch of outsiders will bus in to do any physical work and take the legal risk but I suspect that this is simply a campaign to keep the issue alive by our local student activists that need something to occupy their CoVID boredom.

Then everyone on here that doesn't want Sully taken down should show up. Many here can talk a good game, but when it comes to action then step up and show up to protect it. Words here are just words.

I am not so sure at this point

Fortunately, the MIzzou athletes are not demanding the Jefferson statue go down yet

But the current President said in no uncertain terms, it is staying up period.

He immigrated in 1973, so I wonder if that plays a part in not accepting this nonsense.

I used to think they knew there would be severe consequences to saying Sully should come down and calling for defunding the corps.

The 12th Man needs to come stand for Sully this time.

There is zero chance that last protest was going to pull it down. That wasn't ever the intention.

There may, at some point, be a protest that tries to pull it down. But neither of the ones to this point have had that aim or the right mix of circumstances for it to happen.

I think the better practice would be to ignore them. This is in significant part a boredom/social event, and partly about boosting the SJW street cred for the organizers, but it's also strategically about continuing to stoke divisiveness as part of the Marxist/Alinskyite playbook. Remember that there is no real goal for healing or reconciliation or unity here, and that there will always be a "next thing" for the professional and aspiring-to-be professional protesters.

If there is no confrontation, no one on the other "side," then it's just a bunch of kids feeling kinda foolish for following the chants of their racist leader who they wouldn't have paid any attention to for anything else.

This issue, as others have already pointed out, is that if we do anything there will be severe repercussions, but if the "protestors" do anything the president is likely to do nothing since they have already pandered to this movement.

I don't have any direct evidence, but based on how the defacing of Sully went last time, I imagine local law enforcement has been castrated as well.

They are attacking Sammy already online. (Save Sully) It's going to get bad for him.

Oh and why wait for the protest? The owner of Stearns Design Build suggests a couple of students and a pickup truck

Breaking the law is one thing, making the big donors mad is another.

As stupid and socialistic as our admin is, they still know someone has to donate to make their lofty ideals possible.

The administration is hearing from people with influence and money, and they are being given an idea of how their decisions will impact financial and political support.

If you thing having a confrontation, even a non-violent one, in front of Sully, is going to HELP the cause of keeping Sully, you're thinking of it completely wrong. The last thing the school wants is to keep something that will lead to ugly confrontations. Ignoring the protest and making your voice heard directly to the administration is much more effective.

If TAMU athletes protest at Sully again, let's hope their respective coaches have talked to them ahead of time. These coaches should be mentors and taking your shirt off and getting in an old man's face isn't the right thing to do - no matter what the protest involves.

Promising to "slit" an old man isn't a good look, either.

But that has been the nature of these "mostly peaceful" protests all over the country.

Agreed.

And I think at this point it's very clear that anything done as a counter is going to be portrayed as racist. I mean, the Ags that stood the last time could not have done much more to be quiet and non-confrontational...but one guy makes a remark that wasn't well thought out and the entire group is portrayed as racists that hate Aggies. Every time something like that is spread on social media, it only helps the anti-Sully side.

I don't agree with the talking points of the anti-Sully crowd. But you have to choose your battles on things like this. Confrontation isn't a good idea right now. Nobody on either side of the protests are going to determine the fate of Sully. Don't add fuel to the fire right now.

If protesters try to do something to the statue, it will be on camera...and I don't think a ridiculous display like that would win over hearts and minds to support the removal. I think it would have the opposite impact.
