" During a City Council meeting Wednesday morning, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said 97 percent of the city's ICU beds were filled. A report from the Texas Medical Center (TMC) said 27 percent of those beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients.

According to data published earlier this week by the TMC, a network of health care and research institutions based in Houston, 90 percent of the city's ICU beds were filled as of Monday. Virus patients accounted for more than one-quarter of those occupancies."

Turner is a lib, thus a liar, so don't believe anything he says.

I don't see how this is an issue.

It appears that most ICU use is probably because people put off procedures due to covid and now it is catching up with everyone. if only 27% is from COVID then COVID is not the sole issue.

What's the latest orders put in place in Harris County? I'm not up to date on them.

Houston is one of the biggest if not the biggest hub for medical care. This is scary.
Just another lie from a liar.

Look, we tried couples therapy (the shutdown), it kind of worked but just slowed the inevitable and we lost a lot of money and time.

Now, we are just going full bore divorce. There's going to be some hurting, but it will be over with sooner, and we can get on with our lives instead of these big flare up arguments every few days.

Don't care. We're a gun store. Police have been in the store since the last order and haven't said a word to us. But hey, keep fear mongering. I'm loving the extra traffic.

So, first off, Turner is an idiot and actively lies to make political points. This is well known so you repeating him shows you either are uninformed or you are falling into the same thing. Either way, I can make statistics up to make anything look good.

Just from those numbers, there's a lot of missing info and a lot of misleading info at that. So first off, ICU beds are 97% full and 27% are covid, but what is the percentage of those that are in for covid complications versus the number that were in for other things and simply tested positive for covid? I bet you don't know. I can't find it anywhere because, again, Turner manipulates facts for his own agenda. Or he just lies. If you want, ask Houston PD and Houston FD about that. They probably have a few words for you.

Regardless, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Chill out. Actually, ignore all I said. Keep fear mongering. I'm making a lot of money. And pardon me while I go sell some more guns.

Plus, corona patients aren't the majority of ICU patients,!

Los Angeles County public health director: 'Highly likely' George Floyd protests caused coronavirus spike.'

We are all being made to pay for a spike likely caused by the marches and protests. The mayor of Houston won't even consider that it was a factor.

Turner, Hidalgo, All other Democrats and the news are playing fast and loose with the numbers.

Early on a major hospital in the TMC and it's network of hospital had 1,000 beds to manage Covid. Plenty of beds available.

This major hospital has seen a rise in its ICU beds because more folks are driving to work and working. Sooooo there are more car crashes and accidents of all kinds.......some of these folks are coming in with with COVID and did not know they had it. The TMC is returning to being the recipients of trauma care patients.

Also the folks who are having elective surgery are still slightly above 10% with COVID and not know it.

So the number of available ICU beds are decreasing because people are having accidents. Not because a tsunami of COVID cases.

Just spend an hour next to the medical center on a regular weekend and you will see a constant stream of care flights flying in and out. Figure the ICU is always close to capacity

They do not build hospitals to stay empty or even half empty. Hospitals want to be at +90% occupancy. That makes them efficient and profitable.

Well before Corona came along I have had a couple of family members that had to wait for open beds in the hospital ICU. It is not uncommon.

You, Turner, and Hidalgo are the exact reason non healthcare folks should stay away from making decisions related to healthcare. We always run at 90%+ capacity. It is not uncommon for us to hit 100%. As someone in the hospital management I am tired of the fear mongering from people who don't have a clue about how hospitals run. As of right now we have plenty of room and if anything is a concern, it is staffing. We are currently resolving this issue and it will soon no longer be an issue.

I kind of wish we still had the overflow temp hospitals in Dallas and Houston and we just opened up the whole thing. IF we needed extra beds then use the temp ones. Shutting down "elective " surgery and bankrupting businesses and people is not the right answer.
