Don't know about that... Almost all of the news reports Ive seen show people wearing gloves and touching their faces...

Gloves only work if you have the self control to not touch your face while wearing them.

3 hours in the air thing is the most surprising part of that to me. Am I the only one? my assumption was that it would settle onto surfaces pretty quick.
The reports on this, like many have been, are misleading. In the study they used a nebulizer to make micro-particles. You do not create these "floating" micro particles through normal exhalation. It was a lab study, to what purpose I;m not sure.

Conversely, when someone sneezes the droplets (larger than the created micro-particles above) can travel up to six feet. This temporary "cloud" of infection, and the items it settles on, are what you need to avoid/be leary of.

I'm not a medical professional, but this is my understanding based on association with said professionals.

That is also correct. Awareness of what can be infected and how is key. Lot's of stuff on the interwebs about "hotzones" and the considerations.

They also don't stop the spread from person to persons. I keep seeing retail people wearing 1 set of gloves and processing multiple transactions. They need to be changed after everyperson.

Yup. Unless they are only worried about themselves.

So that theory about professional athletes being immune is out the window....

Quote:

An Olympic gold medalist on Sunday said he'd contracted COVID-19 and described the illness as "by far the worst virus I have ever endured."

Retired South African swimmer Cameron van der Burgh, 31, said he has been struggling with the disease for the last 14 days.

"By far the worst virus I have ever endured despite being a healthy individual with strong lungs (no smoking/sport), living a healthy lifestyle and being young (least at risk demographic)," he tweeted.
Although his worst symptoms, like severe fever, have eased, Van der Burgh said he's still grappling with serious fatigue and an unshakable cough
.
"Any physical activity like walking leaves me exhausted for hours," said the 2012 Olympic 100-meter breaststroke champion.

And remember, that is three hours on the surface of the air. It likely stays alive much longer below the surface.

Have there been any studies on the type of exposure vs the severity of symptoms? Curious if it is evenly weighted between droplet spread and touching contaminated surfaces, or if the milder symptoms result from low initial viral loads.

It protects them, not other people. It reduce them touching their face.

Don't know if they've had time to study this but I'm interested to know the answer too

I don't think that's true now that there are new suppliers. Just saw a connection on LinkedIn post that they're providing 20,000,000 free of charge to hospitals. Jeff Bezos says it's his only priority to focus on how amazon fits with supplying critical items.

there is absolutely no data to support that at this time

we haven't done a serological study

no one knows, period.

but the death rate is almost immaterial at this point. A lower IFR just means the time to reach herd immunity is shorter.

it doesn't change the contagiousness or the overwhelming of the HC system (causing the IFR to go significantly higher)

this is just happy talk in the face of a **** situation

I believe the asymptomatic numbers are much much much higher than people think. I also believe it is fair to assume that the virus has been in the US a lot longer than we believe. Virus dates back to mid-November and we didn't get a case in the US until January 20th. Over two months during some of the busiest travel seasons of the year. It doesn't add up.
