The problem is that this virus has been hyped into a mega killer super virus deadlier than any virus we have seen in years. And there is no evidence of that as of yet in a developed country like the US.

So South Korea that did immeasurably better than the United States is not a developed country now?

Isn't their latest fatality rate close to 1% and rising?

Oh, and Italy is a 3rd world country. Got it.

64 series cases according worldometers USA figures. I'd use the old phrase "alert the media", but that's now complicated.

DumbFox News reporter just said 20% of all people infected with the virus require hospital stays..Why are they allowed to lie like this?

These are the facts that have been observed with this virus so far.

Hence the freak out about bed capacity.

Seems like a strange stance to me when our CDC refused the WHO test which was perfectly ok for the rest of the world and then crapped the bed with their own test 6 weeks ago thereby making it impossible for us to follow the South Korea model.

This is fake news. The WHO never offered us test kits.
You are correct, but it seems like the CDC chose to develop their own test, and ignored the WHO protocols which were published... and then they completely **** the bed with their test.

We certainly have the manufacturing capability to create our own tests, but ignoring what the Germans and WHO came up with seems to have been disastrous for taking early action.

Fair enough. First of all, I know the majority of the CDC are not huge Trump guys.

And despite that, I trust them a lot more than the Germans and especially the WHO.

Yes Italy is a third world country with an aging population with high risks with a mediocre heath care system. I can not remember the last medical break thru that was from Italy.

Korea I believe has had more deaths than the US, correct? What criteria are you basing your assumptions on?

My wife is getting the test tomorrow after going through initial screening with Baylor S&W. I think there's maybe a 10% chance she has it, but she was traveling a lot throughout Texas in the previous two weeks meeting with governments about their CV response so it's not impossible.

I'll update you all, and let you know if I'm gonna be the next to get it

Korea has had less than half the deaths as the US. They're at 91, and we're at 209, including 59 today. In 4-5 days, we will most likely have more daily deaths than Korea has had total from this thing.

Update from San Diego...

The city has kept its sanity unlike Texas and it's counterpart California towns.

I'm still going to work at a downtown construction project. Traffic is still very light. People are supporting the breweries as much as they can. We do not have shelter in place orders. Many fast food places still have lobbies open. Idiotic gov newsom did order all bars that don't serve food close. Otherwise they would still be open.

Majority of people I talk to just want this to be over and think it's pretty dumb. Zero deaths.

Well, gonna go brave the apocalypse and walk over to the st archer beer room and pick up a sixer or two and then to the beach and watch a sunset.

Wish me luck

So let the blame game begin. Libs will blame Trump. Of course, maybe I missed it but I only saw dems interested in impeachment and not coronavirus tests.

I personally do not think it is anyone's fault. Except the Chi coms unleashing this crap on the world. And remember Trump was called a racist for limiting travel with China and actually that will turn out to be brilliant.

Hind sight is always 20/20.

Maybe you guys are fine with Italy sending us 500,000 swabs and China's richest man sending over 1,000,000 testing kits and PPE or whatever and chalk all of this up to dumb luck that other countries were incredibly more prepared than the United States.

Seems like a strange stance to me when our CDC refused the WHO test which was perfectly ok for the rest of the world and then crapped the bed with their own test 6 weeks ago thereby making it impossible for us to follow the South Korea model.

I am not saying who is at fault but I think it's obvious we screwed up and were not as prepared as multiple other countries. And we will pay a price in lives needlessly lost.

We had a good solid month head start on this and because we couldn't test it didn't do us much good.
Are you insinuating that the CDC regulations left in place from a previous administration may have intentionally handicapped America's ability to combat an epidemic?

No one has claimed this. It's not as deadly as MERS or SARS. But more contagious.

God bless. My wife was the 1st quarantined patient and test at the new Baylor Scott and White in Pflugerville this week. The last few days have been insane. We (1 & 3 yrs old) passed a head cold thru the house the last week, plus oak allergies and she ended up having a weird respiratory virus. We took her in middle of night due to fever and heart palpitations. She ended up being septic fighting infections s like crazy from cold, virus and lingering strep from 3 weeks ago. Anyways she was negative on CV but we had to self quarantine for a day and saw the process 1st hand while she spent 2 nighta there. Got kids to dr next day and we are trying to catch up on rest!

Journal of Thoracic Oncology reporting that lung damage occurs before you have symptoms

Quote:

These findings indicate that there is progressive consolidation of the lung, which is ultimately the cause of respiratory failure and death. Lung consolidation is not caused by the accumulation of granulocytes and fibrin, but rather by intra-alveolar organization and fibrosis. Therefore, since the respiratory surface of the lung is obliterated, these patients can no longer respond to intubation and oxygen therapy: this is why they die. From this important report, we learn that the virus can establish infection in the lungs where it produces tissue injury well before producing symptoms, including dry cough and fever that occur later on.

Since Sat we have had 161 deaths. Including 68 today. In the same time span, SK has had 22. Even proportionate to the population, SK has 68% of the deaths we do this week. And their deaths have leveled off at 5-10 a day. Our last few days have been 11, 18, 23, 41 and 68 deaths. We are growing exponentially.

SK and Singapore set the bar for how to handle this. I wish we could duplicate.
