that's in dispute

there might be some asymptomatic but the primary vector is proximity to people showing symptoms per the latest and greatest

what I understand is that this is less silently airborne than it is transferred in abnormally durable droplets

the rate of attack between casual encounters is lower than thought so it may actually be contagious on a closer to flu like level, but if you're not careful you'll get exposed due to surface spread

also being around really sick people in the hospital makes it even harder to avoid due to the viral loads

it's early days so who knows

E. coliand other fecal toxins are often found on nearly every surface; folks who wash their hands before leaving are nonetheless presented with germy door handles. As a solution, use paper towels to turn faucets off

Especially bathrooms on the IT floors. We have to put signs in the IT bathrooms because "you know who" puts trash in the urinals. They are absolutely disgusting bathrooms.

for example, assume the people on the cruise ship weren't exposed via the air ducts from an airborne attack (since that's the latest thinking)

then how did they get it if they were supposed to be chilling in their rooms?

I would guess the food and the people handling it and the kitchen being contaminated.

just a wild ass guess.

I mentioned it a few pages ago. My son is a student at UW. They only have 1 week of classes left, then the next week is finals. After that is Spring break. So basically 3 weeks of not going to class, but they will really only miss a week's worth. Not that big of a deal. (They are on a quarter system not a semester system)

The WHO, CDC etc just won't announce it to avoid panicking people.

22 new cases in New York today with 4,000 people now in quarantine.

All cases and nearly all in quarantine are connected to, you guessed it, that freaking lawyer.

Or crew members infecting each room they visit while they are performing house keeping duties, cleaning toilets, changing bedding, room service, serving drinks, waiting tables me etc.

If one lawyer can infect everyone in his family and his neighbors families, 19 crew positive can infect virtually everyone on that ship.

Five new cases in Colorado today with one of them in Eagle County. That means that both Eagle and Summit where a ton of resorts are have it going around. I'm thinking with spring break it's going to explode here in Colorado over the next week.

At this point I think it's going to so what it's going to do and we just need to push through it.

All but one picked it up from international travel. The other was in an area of California where the virus is active.

what was that lawyer doing by the way

because one recent paper put the familial attack rate at <15%

which is surprising but not if they were at a karaoke bar or at a house party in a small area and they all touched the same doorknob or toilet flush or shared drinks out of a punch bowl

I worked in healthcare back in the day. It was always fascinating to see nurses and respiratory patients on oxygen sitting in the courtyard together smoking.

My neighbor back then was a heart surgeon and he would step outside of the hospital and smoke too.

Edit: And these were mostly white people FTR.

Yep, local radio saying people who were planning to attend still have their spring break and flights with hotels / air bnb reservations, so very likely they will still end up in Austin and a 'black market' SXSW.

21 people on the cruise ship holding off San Francisco tested positive for the virus, 19 crew and 2 passengers.

Obviously they'll be testing more people as needed.

https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/21-people-aboard-grand-princess-cruise-ship-test-positive-for-coronavirus/

A lot of crew on that ship are Filipinos, Ukrainians and South Africans. I would suspect that some crew were on previous cruises where they were exposed. Additionally, passengers tend to be very old and in poor health during this time of year (winter). And also during this time of year, ship passengers tend to be from Canada, the UK, California and states with colder climates. It is the perfect storm for viral spread.

Edit to say that staff is almost manic about having passengers wash hands before meals.

My conference for pediatric medical education (COMSEP) just announced it is cancelled. It was supposed to be in Cincinnati.

What is super annoying is they FINALLY announced it at 6 PM. They were supposed to decide by 12. To make it more fun if you don't cancel the hotel within 24 hours of the announcement you will be charged full price.

Bunch of a-holes.

Bet it is gonna be fun waiting on hold with the hotel with 1000's of other Pediatricians.

And I cannot just decide to suddenly re-open my clinic next week because all the staff has plans already assuming I would be gone. Ah well more time for Texags I guess.
