That's not what I meant when I brought up mutation. The mutation, as I understood it, was enough to make the virus unidentifiable by your adaptive immune system to efficiently create the antibodies (edit: originally said antigens... sorry) to fight the virus... ie, it has to go through the process from scratch to begin producing proper antibodies (edit: originally wrote antigens). If I was incorrect on that, I apologize. That said, I'm glad I voiced my understanding and was subsequently corrected... otherwise I would still have the misunderstanding. It's not a matter of trying to frustrate the folks who are experts.

Does that mean that its not strictly true that any modification in the antigen would necessarily mean your immune response goes back to square one? If that's true, does that also mean that changes in antigen related to receptor binding and viral replication are the key areas that determine the efficiency of immune response memory?

Don't know that it would need to be the spike protein necessarily. It just needs to be some externally exposed surface that an antibody can bind to. I don't know the physical structure of the virus well enough to comment on what. But the divergence paper did not allude to differences with in the locations expected to relate to transmission or replication. Specifically said there were none actually.

Not sure what they can/will do about livestock. We have very few test kits in the US so we do not have much accurate information on this problem here. No matter, please do not pay any attention to what our POTUS says. Especially, if you have significant flu-like symptoms, please do NOT go to work like the POTUS suggested.

The Chinese hospital director comment doesn't appear to be a direct quote and if taken as written, then it sounds like those that already have some sort of brain disorder may have further issues if they have the virus.
