We have innate immunity to flu, not so for covid 19. That means that you go longer where the virus replication goes unchallenged by any immune response, meaning more damge while showing no symptoms. This results in more contact transmission than the flu. Compound that with a more efficient means of attachment than that of the flu and you have an recipe for ridiculous spread. It's not "just the flu". It very much needs to be respected for what it is... a silent invader on the prowl for the immuno-compromised. This is the flu's big brother and if we're not careful it'll be happy to prove it.

Well, I will have to defer to British Cooking. On to trifle and Victoria sponge cake!
Try a London Fog cake.

It has become my new favorite.

That is very rich for us survivalists. We may have to rely on Rock Cake or Anzac biscuits due to the amount of oatmeal on hand.

Scottish oat cakes! Those are great with butter and jam.

I do have many types of tea and a tea set, so I will survive in style. Until I am forced to eat the canned soups I bought.

Choose your favorite.....

Option 1: Refurbished Minuteman missile silo, 250ft below ground
Option 2: House on private island with sniper tower
Option 3: Cargo container cemented and buried in side of hill in the middle of nowhere
Option 4: Concrete and steel safe room in a house in suburbs

Infections
COVID-19: Approximately 84,119 cases worldwide; 62 cases in the U.S. as of Feb. 28, 2020.
Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

Deaths
COVID-19: Approximately 2,871 deaths reported worldwide; 0 deaths in the U.S., as of Feb. 28, 2020.
Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

So why the COVID-19 panic when there's no flu panic?

Have you done the math yet? I let it sit with you a while to see if you'd figure it out. So, you're still much more afraid of Covid than the flu? Have you done the math on your odds of catching it, then figure you have a 2% chance of dying if you do get it. Versus the odds that you catch the flu and have .05% chance of dying, which is more likely that you die? Keep in mind, you have 0% chance of dying if you never get it.

1. They're not mutually exclusive. Having COVID19 out in the wild doesn't lessen the severity of flu. Right there the entire premise basically falls apart.

2. I'm not afraid of either one.

3. No one knows the risk of getting COVID19 at this point. It is likely large spread in risk based on public action and how the next few months go. It may be zero if it's contained. If not it could become a pandemic like Spanish Flu did, with similar results.

It's a stupid comparison. You can pick any risk. Drowning, lightning, driving, air travel, and say yeah these pose a greater risk. But that doesn't mean steps shouldn't be taken to mitigate a new risk.

If you think it's a zero risk and a waste of time, why are you even reading this thread? The conversation has been had over and over again. It's not the flu. It's not the same kind of virus. It's not the same kind of sickness. It's a dumb comparison.

Governments don't ban travel for seasonal flu... so your wager is silly. The simple fact that upper level officials are willing to do what they are doing in spite of the economic impact should be a red flag as to the seriousness. I'm glad our leaders are taking it more serious than some here... do some research and you'd be changing your tune. This isn't apocolyptic, but I'd bet the farm there are people close to you that would be seriously affected by this if things progress here by acting like its no different than the seasonal flu. The science clearly illustrates that this needs to be taken seriously. I hope the numbers are controlled to be lower than the flu, but to think that its on the same level of the flu is pretty ignorant. I don't want to be offensive about that, but it's true.
