Doesn't jive with the theme of the article. So it's thrown out.

What if something close to 100% of those infected over the age of 60 did not die? We would be very screwed.Quote:

Seems like this chart could be appropriate for just about any non-cancer disease, no?japantiger said:

OK, that makes sense.
Or it's the plan to cover expanding social security and medicare costsQuote:
Maybe it sticks around in some form after the initial symptoms wears off. What if something close to 100% of those infected over the age of 60 die over the next four decades or so? We could all be very screwed.
I looked up flu and the ratios are similar across age groups but mortality isn't as high with the flu. Keep in mind though that this data is for mainland China and many of these people probably didn't receive proper treatment. I'm not sure if they ration care to the elderly but it wouldn't surprise me.tysker said:Seems like this chart could be appropriate for just about any non-cancer disease, no?japantiger said:

Your thinking is so 1960s. The purpose of bio warfare is less to attack the military than it is to attack the civilian infrastructure and basically sow panic in the rear ranks.goodAg80 said:This is the profile of a well designed Bio-weapon. Below is the crux of the U.S. national plan and what is going on right now at national and state levels on down to local levels.
What is going on now at the CDC level in the United States
I am noting a different more intense set of fears on the threads.
Understand, this will eventually get to the U.S. That is a simple fact. Get over it. The now known highly efficient person to person transmission characteristics with new examples daily make this inevitable. BUT, it is NOT going to be the Zombie Apocalypse. It is more likely to resemble the influenza from hell for about two years... It is going to be bad, but NOT the end of the world. Children are going to be the least affected, the older you are the more at risk. Treatments are already being explored that will reduce case fatality rates. Vaccine may be available within 18 months in amounts impacting the populace as a whole.
The government is presently utilizing what I am calling a firewall approach to delay its introduction into the US. The primary purpose of this is to buy U.S. time. Every day new information comes out that "mitigates" the potentials of this disease ranging from descriptive Epidemiology to treatments etc. If we can delay it, then our healthcare systems can better deal with it and not be overwhelmed. The Chinese approach has actually protected the rest of the world for a short period of time. We should use that time wisely.
Have you been to Japan? In the cities they are packed together like democrats at the welfare office.scottimus said:

Those people in Tokyo tend to move all about large portions of the country....k2aggie07 said:
Nah that's really only true in Tokyo in my experience. They live in very dense urban spaces, but I never felt uncomfortable or squished except in Tokyo.
