Lots of rumors again circulating about origins, etc. people claiming inside info. if anything starts to look credible I'll update.

Singapore and Japan are going to be the places to watch since their medical systems are top notch.
Postulating a death rate of 16 to 18% at this stage is just fear mongering.

What are the numbers? 14 total cases with 2 severe cases, 1 almost died. That aligns with the Chinese statistics.JJMt said:
And to offset that scary data from Singapore, all but two of the patients in the U.S. are said to have only mild symptoms.
No I don't either, but a lot of things "could be". Its just speculation.ttu_85 said:Could be. Do you know for sure ?Forum Troll said:Who is this guy, what are his sources, and why should we care how he analyzes things?Nuclear Scramjet said:

I know that there are self quarantined folks in San Antonio. Wonder if that CDC tweet is related to that?

Feb 13 (Reuters) - CDC-
* CDC CONFIRMS 15TH CASE OF CORONAVIRUS DISEASE IN THE U.S.
* CDC SAYS CORONAVIRUS PATIENT IS AMONG A GROUP OF PEOPLE UNDER A FEDERAL QUARANTINE ORDER IN TEXAS
* CDC SAYS THERE WILL LIKELY BE ADDITIONAL CORONAVIRUS CASES IN COMING DAYS AND WEEKS
Believe all or nothing, but a dude posting on twitter that the death rate is 16 to 18% is FEAR MONGERING. That was his point.Bobcat06 said:Forum Troll said:Who is this guy, what are his sources, and why should we care how he analyzes things?Nuclear Scramjet said:

The current case fatality rate of ~2% is based on statistics from China, which no one believes. So why should we believe the 2% number?
Videos and actions from China make it look like the FCR is much higher.
Real numbers will come from Singapore and Japan in the next few weeks.
Can't say I'd fault them; their actions don't reflect any of the numbers so far except maybe the number of new infections yesterday. I'd still expect it to take a while for the new metric to catch up to reality though. Especially if it's only changed for one area vs. the entire country.lunchbox said:
Some of the first comments I have seen from the US Govt that aren't gushing with praise for the way the Chinese are handling things.

A North Korean official has been executed for going to a public bath while he was meant to be in quarantine, a report in the South has claimed.
The trade official was arrested and immediately shot after risking the spread of coronavirus by visiting the public bath, the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported.
The official had been placed in isolation after travelling to China, with Kim Jong-un imposing military law to enforce the lockdown, sources said.
North Korea has not yet confirmed any cases of the virus, but has taken drastic measures to stop it spreading over its border with China.
Yep. Read through that guy's twitter timeline. He's definitely on the doomsday side of things.Rapier108 said:Quoting random Twitter accounts is the hallmark of the doomsdayers on this thread.Quote:

Seems a bit excessive....maybe some one should tell the NKs to stop taking this zombie apocalypse thing so serious.

San Antonio patient is in isolation at a "nearby hospital." My guess is BAMC since it's military.

Sen. Josh Hawley was briefed twice yesterday on COVID-19 and he just publicly stated that the Chi-coms are severely under reporting the cases and deaths and have therefore put the rest of the world at much greater risk. He said the US government is preparing for the worst by taking all measures necessary to accomplish that.
