1) Health officials don't have much power in China
2) Wartime measures (state of emergency) can only be called at the prefecture level by the party secretary
3) They are going to get slapped so hard by the CCP it won't be funny.

Who is this guy, what are his sources, and why should we care how he analyzes things?

Postulating a death rate of 16 to 18% at this stage is just fear mongering.

This is a good article on the situation in Singapore. Lists the clusters and explains about the 8 in serious condition. It has quotes from the Minister for Health (from the press conference).

On the good side- of the 50, 15 have recovered.

And to offset that scary data from Singapore, all but two of the patients in the U.S. are said to have only mild symptoms.
What are the numbers? 14 total cases with 2 severe cases, 1 almost died. That aligns with the Chinese statistics.

No I don't either, but a lot of things "could be". Its just speculation.

None of the data to this point is even remotely close to that CFR though, which is why its fear mongering.

The current case fatality rate of ~2% is based on statistics from China, which no one believes. So why should we believe the 2% number?

Videos and actions from China make it look like the FCR is much higher.

Real numbers will come from Singapore and Japan in the next few weeks.

Since there is an unscheduled press conference announced in San Antonio specifically about the cononavirus, it is going to be at Lackland AFB so that would be one of the people already being quarantined.

Some of the first comments I have seen from the US Govt that aren't gushing with praise for the way the Chinese are handling things.

Can't say I'd fault them; their actions don't reflect any of the numbers so far except maybe the number of new infections yesterday. I'd still expect it to take a while for the new metric to catch up to reality though. Especially if it's only changed for one area vs. the entire country.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7999437/North-Korea-executes-official-public-bath-visit-quarantine.html

North Korea executed a person who returned from China and was supposed to be under quarantine. He broke quarantine and went to a public bath.

Quote:

A North Korean official has been executed for going to a public bath while he was meant to be in quarantine, a report in the South has claimed.

The trade official was arrested and immediately shot after risking the spread of coronavirus by visiting the public bath, the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported.

The official had been placed in isolation after travelling to China, with Kim Jong-un imposing military law to enforce the lockdown, sources said.

North Korea has not yet confirmed any cases of the virus, but has taken drastic measures to stop it spreading over its border with China.

Sen. Josh Hawley was briefed twice yesterday on COVID-19 and he just publicly stated that the Chi-coms are severely under reporting the cases and deaths and have therefore put the rest of the world at much greater risk. He said the US government is preparing for the worst by taking all measures necessary to accomplish that.

It's SAMMC now. But last time I was there they had a normal infectious disease ward with negative pressure rooms. I hope they have all the resources they need to effectively contain the case. The next three weeks will be nerve racking. God bless our Soldiers, Airmen and the San Antonio community.

Edit: we don't know for sure the case is at SAMMC. They might have set up services at Lackland.

Any news on the 14 positive cases in the US? I thought I remembered hearing a couple released from hospital to be monitored at home but not sure.
