Sadly he is not involved with novel research. I'm thinking maybe they edited the virus from harmless to harmful.StrickAggie06 said:
A faulty edit making it less harmless would also be a possibility, in theory. In an extreme example, the viral glycoproteins could be rendered completely non functional, making it incapable of infecting cells of any organism. Alternatively, you could simply revert the virus back to a non-human affecting strain.
Of course, this is all hypothetical. Your contact should be able to give a better idea as to whether those possibilities have any merit, given that he's directly involved in HIV and infectious disease research.
No, soccer doc does not do HIVclaym711 said:

That removes the CCR5 binding receptor...OnlyForNow said:
On the HIV topic, if this virus were to infect people with corona-HIV and not kill them or make them that sick, and part of that process would make them immune to other forms of HIV, then you just "cured" HIV.

They've reportedly found parts of the virus's genetic sequence contains HIV sequencing in it.
If true, it would mean the Chinese engineered the virus. They were doing HIV research at the facility in Wuhan.
We don't know.ccaggie05 said:Bobcat06 said:ccaggie05 said:

What does that mean in regards to people who are infected with the virus?

What form of government will you be instituting at your compound? Do you intend to claim the right of prima nocta?black_hat_ag said:fullback44 said:Mr.Infectious said:fullback44 said:Same here, already Bought 4-5 months of dry good and canned vegetables and plenty of seeds for a garden... it may be time to head out to the ranch and get away from the crowds real soon... was thinking about electricity ideas if power went out but I don't see power going outBobcat06 said:

How are you going to handle the influx of city people requesting to come stay with you if SHTF?
I've already had the conversation w one friend. Told her to find other accommodations if/when things go south. My family coming from the city get first dibs. It wasn't a good feeling.
Truth be told, I've got a list in my head of those that I will take their call and those that I won't. It makes me ill, but reality is finite/limited resources means tough decisions.
I had a conversation w another friend (married mid 30s) over a couple beers. When this virus thing was just getting rolling, I asked him what he do it a worst case. He admitted that w/o Uber eats he and his wife were screwed. Smart guy but zero common sense. Needless to say he's not on my invite list.
We have 1600 acres.. if they want to bring an rv and post up on the back 40 somewhere we have some room .. I don't think all "friends" would want to be in the middle of no where .. a few at best
I'm only at a few hundred acres. But got plenty of food water and supplies. I'll take a couple fam in and some friends that I know would be productive in case of a fight or prolonged societal meltdown. Obviously if this thing were to go long enough I will need help going to "procure" more supplies.
Essentially I'm thinking a gang of sorts. Let's hope this thing peters out and nothing drastic has to happen.

I was more curious of the gangs official colors. Could be a dealbreaker for me.

Then you get ****ed by west nile.
Then HIV mutates to use CDX4.
You're just as screwed...
I am trying to understand what is the real issue with this particular strain of whatever it ultimately turns out to be. Is it more virulent? Higher death rate? Spread faster? Not really sure I understand the hysteria vs the regular flu. We've already had over 10k die in the US this year of the garden variety flu. Where and why does this one vary and create panic?KorbinDallas said:
Back to the topic at hand. Another 1900+ confirmed cases in China.

Serious question: why is this such a big deal? Flu kills so many more people and spreads very rapidly...more than 300 cases a day. Why are we so worried?
My real concern is that it's A LOT worse than China is letting on and they are scared ****less.
So to rehash the previous 59 pages just for you...
This is a new (novel) virus not known to infect humans before, so as far as we know no immunity. China is basically coming to a stand still economically, therefore the world Economy will be slowing also. There is reason to suspect that China was studying (if not modifying) this virus in a bio lab. China's reported numbers are suspected to be several times lower than real numbers. Infected persons are spreading the virus before showing symptoms. The mortality of this virus seems to be 20-30 times that of the normal flu. The spread of this virus appears to be 2 to 3 times more than the normal flu. I'm sure I have left off several other important facts.

Here is my personal answer again.

Again, I ask why is the CDC not demanding restrictions on international travel from China?
They issue dire press releases for measles infections demanding action as if the world is ending even though measles is far less severe than other diseases and extremely rarely results in death.
