Mostly dead bodies in street. One was a video of a person falling to the ground outside what looked to be an office building with the paramedics arriving shortly thereafter (can no longer find that vid).

I agree that 24 hour rule applies, but at the same time, if it were me, I'd shut down travel for at least 24 hours and then reassess. Better to be safe than infected.

I think this thing has caught them with their pants down and this is an over-reaction to save face.

China is incompetent and corrupt. A bad recipe for pandemics.

And Nazi Germany also would not let an epidemic just spread around where they had to shut down entirely Hamburg, and Munich, and ban festivals in Berlin. They would make genuine effort to contain it.

Agreed, and their response to this has basically been to halt travel to affected reasons to try and contain an outbreak. No matter the level of centralized planning, it's clear they have a problem.

To add to the data points, they just canceled the Chinese New Year celebration in Beijing. This is the biggest national celebration every year in China focused on celebrating the state and Xi. It's a huge effing deal for them to pull the plug on that.

Just one more indicator they're in a panic and trying to contain the situation over there.

Our population is less than 1/4th of China's and we've had many more than 18 die from flu so far this year.

In the 2017-2018 flu season, Texas had more than 2300 deaths from the flu.

Could this outbreak be worse than the flu? Absolutely. However, it's likely not even close yet.

If they made this in their biolab in Wuhan, they likely have a very good idea of its lethality.

So, running out the thought string here, if they made it, they know how dangerous it is, and are taking these steps, it's likely a BFD.

If they have no idea where it came from, these reactions on their part are likely out of caution and fear.

Time will tell.

If there is a threat of contagion, the historical fact that the Chicom government would happily slaughter tens of millions if it helps them contain it seems relevant to me. The US government, even if AOC/Schiff were running things, would not have such ability, or a willing military branch to carry out such an order.

I see it thus as relevant. Containment is different than extermination/eradication.

He thinks he got it while traveling to Wuhan to inspect some of the early treatment centers. He had a mask on the whole time but speculates he did not wear eye protection.

I wonder if he visited this Chinese lab several others mentioned in earlier posts.

In line with your thinking, I think this all stems from that time we cheaped-out at Home Depot and bought the Chinese knockoff widget and it broke within five minutes. People just do not trust the Chinese government, and most of it is warranted. This also includes the years of theft from the rest of the world that their government has promoted.

I think you are missing the idea entirely --what I mean is they are not doing this for nothing --- and would not be any less serious about trying to stop something like this then anyone else. So it means a very big deal if they cancel their Christmas-New Years equivalent over it. Your post only means they would go to greater measures to do so.

Media attention as the next big scare for views, and for the Chinese, I think genuine precautionary reaction as they are highly vulnerable to this type of threat.
