The LPGA starts its first overseas trek in Feb and mid-Feb to early March starts the Thailand, Singapore, China swing occurs. If this is getting out of control I suspect the tour will cancel those events.

The reactions by the Chinese Government sure lead you to believe it's a lot worse than they are admitting. I hope they get this under control. I have a trip to SE Asia planned in a couple of months, and I don't need this thing spreading across the whole region.
Absolutely not. But I don't know if we had the power to "allow" or not "allow" them building such a lab. Ourselves and maybe Japan are one of the few would really trust with such. You might assume Europe, but they have too much of an infiltration issue and a terrorist capture seems a risk.TacosaurusRex said:
I know I am not the only one thinking that the Chinese shouldn't have been allowed to build a level 4 bio lab. It sounds like the Chinese version of Chernobyl, and that it is destined to cause problems (yay! Communism).
Also, I agree that you don't shut off tens of millions of people and cancel a major holiday without something being way worse than what is reported.
It is either that or they know they let the virus out on their watch.cbr said:
There is no info out either. Checked cdc and different search engines. The message is identical across all sources. Its a controlled message.
No way in hell they quarantined 4 cities 30 million people, and spraying **** everywhere over 440 cases/9 deaths.
Come on. They think this one is the real deal.

A detailed genetic analysis of the virus was performed, in which it was compared to any available genetic information on other viruses from across the world and the animal kingdom. This work resulted in the conclusion that this new virus first formed due to the combination of a coronavirus strain usually found in bats with another coronavirus strain of largely "unknown origin." The product of this combination was a new virus that featured a mix, or "recombination," of a viral protein that recognizes and binds to host cell receptors. This ability to recognize and bind to host cells is effectively what allows viruses to enter new hosts, leading to infection and disease.
So, while the very beginnings of 2019-nCoV appear to be linked to bats, researchers also found evidence that the coronavirus at some point made its way into snakes before ultimately reaching human patient zero. It was this aforementioned ability to recombine within the viral receptor-binding protein that likely facilitated the virus' cross-species transmission from snakes to humans.
A prior tweet mentioned this virus. It is just speculation at this point.jxs40 said:Are you saying the Pirbright Inst. has a lab in Wuhan? Or that somehow a lab in the UK caused an outbreak in China?VaultingChemist said:
Corona Virus Patent 2015
It is still not confirmed if this virus is responsible for this outbreak, but it sure is looking like the virus might have escaped from the lab.

BEIJING, Jan 23 (Reuters) - China's capital city Beijing cancelled major public events including two well-known Lunar New Year temple fairs, the state-run Beijing News said on Thursday, as authorities try to curb the spread of a deadly coronavirus outbreak.
Separately, the country's railway operator, China State Railway Group, said passengers would be able to receive full refunds on tickets nationwide starting on Friday. (Reporting by Tony Munroe; editing by John Stonestreet)
Holy crap. If its that bad, it may be fortunate it is there. Only that government has the draconian power to shut down something as big as Christmas-New Years (which is what is equivalent to). We could not do it to save our lives.scottimus said:

I'd worry about sitting next to/near someone who's actively sneezing everywhere but the cabin air on an aircraft is fairly clean. It is recycled by the pressurization system roughly every 5-10 minutes - you're not just sitting in the same air for 2-4 hours.

I heard on a news update that flights from China would be funneled to five US airports, at which passenger screening will be done. If I find a link to this I'll add it to my post (or someone else please feel free to post a link).

Last I heard, the incubation period length was not known yet.
What about course of the disease---is there a certain amount of days sick you know going to recover, or sink? Any indicators on that yet.AG 2000' said:5-10 days is what I've seen so far.BlueMiles said:scottimus said:

Imagine will learn soon. The Seattle case will be a clear indicator of the recovery interval, if hopefully does.AG 2000' said:If there are, China and the WHO aren't sharing yet.titan said:What about course of the disease---is there a certain amount of days sick you know going to recover, or sink?
