Didn't she initially say that she was afraid to testify to the committee because she didn't think the committee's questioners would treat her fairly?

Now she wants them to question her because the pro-victim prosecutor wouldn't treat her fairly?

The talking point that the GOP committee members were all male was trotted-out this morning. Could they fairly question her? Now she doesn't want a female prosecutor to question her.

She doesn't know what she wants...except to not testify before that committee.

Short thread. Definitely on target. Normal people see what Dems will do to anyone with a different opinion, and consequently they are joining the #WalkAway.

This is a PR operation at this point. They know full well she is going to back out of testifying, it's all about making it look like the Republicans wouldn't give her a fair opportunity to tell "her story" - which is exactly what it is. A complete act of fiction dreamed up as part of a desperate attempt to delay confirmation until after the mid-terms.

I wish Judge K would sue every one of these false accusers into oblivion for this charade.

At this point the Dems are all in on this. They realize that her allegations are bunk but they don't need them to be accurate or believable. All they need is enough impact on the emotional level to achieve success. For days we've assumed that four Republican Senators were in play (Collins, Murkowski, Flake, Corker). Now Fox has reported that the number of Republicans in play might be as high as seven (Enzi, Lankford, Sasse). Accurate or not if these are the rumors circulating on the Hill this will embolden the Democrats to move forward.

All the Democrats need are two Republicans to defect. Two out of seven sounds a whole lot better than two out of four. I have to believe they see this as worth the risk. If they don't have her testify the will look even more ridiculous than they currently do. If she testifies and hits it out of the park they tank Kavanaugh and have momentum going into the midterms.

Any republican who is "in play" and can't see this for what it is should have all of the dirt available on them dumped by Trump. If they're too dumb to see what the dems are doing and don't have the balls to hold the line when it's needed the most, they need to get the hell out and not represent the American people.

Have you not paid attention to any of this? A half broken wet noodle is harder than the spines in the GOP outside of Trump. The dems get that. They play to their solid base and go all in. The GOP doesn't. They will screw over their base to appease the fringe who will put a knife in their backs the first chance they got.

I agree. I don't like the scenario I described. I just feel that this is how it will play out.

I'm hoping that the Chairman of the GOP has been in contact all the "in play" Senators and made them realize that if they go against the party on this then they will be considered persona non grata and will face a serious primary challenge in their next election and will have crap committee assignments from here on out. For Corker and Flake who are not running for reelection make sure they understand they will have no access to the halls of power once they leave DC. All their influence will be dead.

If Flake votes no then what ever dream he had about running for POTUS is dead.

Absolutely. Right now the left is lambasting anyone who has already decided without hearing the testimony - which in many circumstances is fair to do. Hopefully they just want to be able to say "I kept an open mind, but when she refused to repeat her accusation under oath, I could not agree to destroy a man and his career over a rumor."

I say that because I still feel certain she won't testify. She never intended to, and all of the delaying and arguing about the form of the hearing has just been buying time and then creating an excuse for backing out.

I see others think that whoever is the ringleader of this mess will force her to testify, but I don't think so. The downside of putting her out there and having her self-destruct under the bright lights is too great.
